MY PLACE
I was decreed—
To be born,
For a short sojourn,
In a city,
Fully of variety—
Temporarily freed...
Freed so as to see—
If I'm worth,
From the earth,
As a being,
Who is believing—
To be declared free.
Free not from nothing—
But from defect,
So to that effect,
As a relief,
I'm given a belief—
That earns me blessing.
The blessing hard to earn—
It's better to prove,
And to improve,
Our mettle,
Than to settle—
For a flimsy crown,
The crown to adorn—
Worth not a bit,
Not even a nit,
Nor the wing of mite,
That has a nasty bite—
It's better to mourn.
Mourn not the dead—
Under the six-feet earth,
But those in hell's hearth,
Strive not for fire,
And be a live pyre—
But for Paradise instead....MH
