A Egyptian story: from clerk to general manager
The carreer of Abou El Haggag Elammari – by the way
better known as“Haggag”– looks like an American dream
in Egypt: from receiving clerk to general manager. But,
it is not a fairy tale. His nomination as general manager
for The Three Corners Fayrouz Plaza Beach Resort in
Marsa Alam is the result of hard work and devotion for a
company.
“It looks unbelievable”, he says,“but I started in 1991 in The
Three Corners Village in Hurghada (now The Three Corners
Empire Beach Resort) as a receiving clerk.
After my studies as bachelor in accounting I came to Hurgha-
da to do my military service. That’s where I met the front office
manager of the Village who told me that instead of sleeping in
the afternoon he had a job for me.
I soon met the“young boss”Christophe Lambrecht who en-
gaged me and since always has given me full support and the
power to continue”.
“Mister Opening”
“I worked as a receiving clerk up to the opening of The Three
Corners Empire Hotel in 1996, also in Hurghada. Soon I was
promoted to senior accountant, chief accountant, assistant
financial controller and financial controller”
From then on Haggag became“Mister Opening”.
In 2002 he opened The Three Corners Palmyra Resort
followed by the opening in 2004 from The Three Corners
Kiroseiz Resort, both in Sharm El Sheikh.
“Hard times”, he recalls.“Imagine, during the construction I literally camped on the construction site, with a minimum of
accommodation. It was really working on the barricades. But on the other hand it were unforgettable adventures. And
when you see later on the result of your work it gives you immense satisfaction.”
Intense moments
“Hanging up the sign of Palmyra Resort was to me the most intense moment of my young carreer. Imagine, hanging
up the name of the company in a new destination – which was Sharm at that time – really emotionalized me deeply.”
In 2007 Haggag was again called for an opening, this time The Three Corners Fayrouz Plaza Beach Resort.
“I was again on a campsite for many months”, he says,“but this time I really lost my heart to the place. We are here in
the middle of nature, with a beautiful beach directly on the Red Sea, crawling of sea live. I cannot imagine one day
without swimming and snorkeling in those unspoiled waters”.
“Apart from the joy I feel in this nature I made it a point of honor to do everything I can to preserve this heritage of
Egypt”.
Challenge
Haggag promoted last year from opening manager to general manager ad interim.
“What a challenge”, thus Haggag.“Fayrouz Plaza wasn’t even on the map between the already exciting hotels in Marsa
Alam. But, in the mean time Fayrouz Plaza jumped in the top five in the Marsa Alam destination.”
The official nomination as general manager isn’t a surprise, but a logical result of this hard work in and for the com-
pany.
Congratulations mister Haggag.
