2. 2010 High School Graduation Rates
• In the class of 2010, 51% of Native students earned a diploma
• Down from 54% in 2008 (peak)
• In New Mexico – only 67.3% of students graduate. Only ahead of DC
(59.9%) and Nevada (57.8%)
• According to the 2010 census, only 8% of Native people & Hispanic or
Latino (excluding Native Hawaiian) had a bachelor’s degree or higher
(17% of the overall population)
6. What Colleges Look for
according to the College Board
• Math
• Algebra and geometry help you succeed on college entrance exams and in college
math classes. Take them early, so you'll have time for advanced science and math,
which will help show colleges you're ready for higher-level work.
• Most colleges want students with three years of high school math. The more
competitive colleges prefer four years. Take some combination of the following:
• Algebra I
• Algebra II
• Geometry
• Trigonometry
• Calculus
