1. Data Ethics, how and to what
extend it is disrupting the
GLOBAL BUSINESS
Today data is the new crude, in previous centuries we have been in the situation
where the war happened due to the black gold. Today and in near future, it is kind of
war among the DATA PLAYERS to provide best of the service experience, is going on.
Those who are having accurate data, are enjoying the real taste of the situation. This
is a never ending race where with each passing minutes’ new players are interested to
join the ‘game’.
DATA is playing very crucial role in the decision making of any organisation, as it
contains the customer behaviour, gender, age, education (demographic), likes and
dislikes(behaviour), many of the time their choices and preferences. interpretation
based on all such would help the company to decide what they should do next in
order to achieve their ultimate goal and that is profit and CUSTOMER
SATISFACTION.
When lot of happenings are based on the DATA an organization have (which
is the result of past move of customer) then many of the organizations have their
different ways of collection the Data and using it the way they want it. Even if their
point is that they are doing all this to maximise customer satisfaction, they many of
time misuse the information they gathered, either by shifting the information to
some other organization or institution for 3rd party benefit without letting the 1st
party know about this.
Breach of Data Ethics may lead an unhappy customer, government or
organization etc. data ethics is all about the code of conduct which should be always
followed because the deal happening among two parties is based on the mutual trust.
When last year the news came that the one of the largest social media
platforms have sold the user’s information to a firm which was involved in election
campaign, almost everyone felt cheated.
After such so many incidents, in india SUPREME COURT OF INDIA
declared RIGHT to PRIVACY as fundamental right of indian citizen. The right to
privacy is protected as an intrinsic part of the right to life and personal liberty
Under Article 21.
Now on internet each one has right to refuse to share their peace of
information and ask that where you are going to use my set of information. Using
data without the consent of 1st party is not part of data ethics.
Transparency is the key tomaintain the ETHICS.
This particular issue is a big disruption for global business as it put a big ‘?’ on the
credibility and accountability of internet based service providing companies in the IT
dominated world.
