7 Leadership lessons to be
learned from M.S.Dhoni’s
captaincy
1.VISION
• Great leaders have vision. They
can see into the future. They
have a clear, exciting idea of
where they are going and what
they are trying to accomplish
and are excellent at strategic
planning.
• Having a clear vision turns the
individual into a special type of
person.
2. POSITIVE ATTITUDE
•

There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big
difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is
positive or negative.

•

CL FINAL 2013

•

Dhoni: Before going in I said, let's first of all get rid of the feeling that it's a 50over game. It's a 20-over game, and we have seen in IPL and in T20 formats,
130 runs can be a difficult target to achieve. Secondly, nobody looks to the left
of the pavilion. That's the side that the rain was coming from. So, I said God is
not coming to save us, If you want to win this trophy, we'll have to fight it
out. We are the number-one ranked ODI side, so let's make sure that they
have to fight for these 130-odd runs. Don't look for any outside help.
3. RISK TAKING ABILITY
Dares to take risks that make the difference
4. SHOWS THE WAY…
Magnetic Personality binds the team
Having Confidence in team members
• Dhoni believed that if a player is in Indian team then he has something in
him. It doesn't matters if he is going through a rough phase, what he
needs is a little extra push. We all know if we are down we just need a pat
on the back saying that yes you can do it. If we have someone in like doing
that for us, things will be much easier.
• The perfect example of Dhoni showing confidence in his team member is
selection of out of form Yuvraj for world cup. Every one was disappointed
about the fact that he was picked up for the 15 member squad, but what
was the result of it, he was the Man of the Series of ICC WC 2011.
5. CAPTAIN
COOL
Operates unflappably to
ensure that all are grounded
6. LEADING FROM THE FRONT
Inspirational, instinctive, impulsive, intriguing style gives the winning edge
The fist real thing that differentiates a
good leader from a bad one is how they
understand the concept of leadership
itself.
If you expect your team to work hard and
produce quality content, you’re going to
lead by example. There is no greater
motivation than seeing the boss down in
the trenches working alongside everyone
else.
By proving your commitment to the brand
and your role, you will not only earn the
respect of your team, but will also instill
that same hardworking energy among
your staff.
7. RESPECT
Humility is at the heart of his leadership style

“I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along
with people.” - Mahatma Gandhi
Dhoni the best captain I have played under - Tendulkar

I want to go to war with this guy ( Dhoni ). I have read that great leaders in the world
give credit to others when things are going well and take responsibility when things
are going badly. MSD is that to the Team.
