Social Media Lesson Description
The California standard that I would use Facebook for is World History and Geography:
Ancient Civilizations 6.2, “Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and
social structures of the early civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Kush” (p30). I would
place students in groups of three and each would be responsible for one of the civilizations.
Whichever civilization a student has, they will create a profile for their chosen civilization. On
The profiles students will post pictures, with descriptions of their significance, videos, artwork,
etc. related to their civilization. Now that Facebook allows music on the profiles, students can
also see if they could find music from their civilization. Once students complete their profiles,
the students who are working together will then form a group on Facebook. In the groups
students would then post collaborative photos of rivers and trade routes, while also tagging
themselves in the photos. Facebook allows you to place your tag anywhere on the photo, so, each
student will place their tag where their civilization belongs on the major river or trade route. The
tags will allow people to click on one of the civilizations and learn about them from the profiles.
The profiles being grouped together will keep the information organized and allow for easy
