5. INTRODUCTION TO CNC
Cartesian Coordinate System :-
FIG-1 Intersecting lines form right angles and ) FIG- 2 The three-dimensional
establish the zero point (Allen-Bradley) . coordinate planes (axes) used
in CNC.
7. Machine Types :-
Lathe :- Most lathes are programmed on two axes.
The X axis controls the cross motion of the cutting tool. Negative X (X-)
moves the tool towards the spindle centreline ; positive X moves the tool
away from the spindle centreline .
The Z axis controls the carriage travel toward or away from the
headstock.

8. Milling Machine :-
The milling machine can be programmed on three axes:
• The X axis controls the table movement left or right.
• The Y axis controls the table movement toward or away from the
column.
• The Z axis controls the vertical (up or down) movement of the knee or
spindle.
9. PROGRAMMING SYSTEMS :-
Two types of programming modes, the incremental system and the
absolute system, are used for CNC.
Positioning Reference Point Systems:
1. Incremental program :-
11. CODES
G Code:
G Code is used to control to position and
function of the main machine and tool
position. G code is defined preparatory
code.
M Code:
M code is used to control other functions on
a machine tool such as the spindle and tool
changing. M code controls the
miscellaneous functions of the machine tool.

20. GRINDING WHEEL:-A grinding wheel consists of abrasive
particles and bonding material. The bonding material holds the particles in
place and establishes the shape and structure of the wheel.
GRINDING OPERATIONS:-
1)Surface grinding,
2)Cylindrical grinding,
3)Centerless grinding
24. PROJECT OVERVIEW
The main motto of the training was to bless myself with the boon
of engineering technique required for complete production in the
case of CNC machines.
At Lohia Corp. Limited I came to know how various parts.
which are required in the assembly of various machines such as
tapeline and winder are produced at the CNC shop.
I came to know about the various tools which are used in the
manufacturing process as well as the measuring instruments
involved in it.
Learning about the automatic working of the machines as well as
the G and M coding involved was a truly enriching experience.
Finally and most importantly I came to know how to deal with the
work force which are the roots of any organization.
