A fast food drive-through restaurant has a single serving booth staffed by a single operative. There
is space for ten vehicles to wait if the service booth is occupied. If all ten spaces are occupied
when a car arrives, it has to drive past and the customer is lost. Cars arrive at random at a rate of
55 per hour. Service times are exponential with a mean of one minute.
Employees are paid 10.30 per hour. Time waiting before receiving service has a high value in the
fast food industry. Here it is valued at 95 per hour. The average revenue per customer is 15.
For this queueing situation, use the queueing template spreadsheet (and enter answers to the
accuracy displayed by the spreadsheet) to calculate the average number of cars at the drive-
through (the whole system) and the average time a car is waiting to be able to drive up to the
booth and make their order and the probability a customer will fail to achieve entry to the drive-
through . Note: Fill the first three blanks with 4 decimal places.
Calculate the hourly cost of the system under present circumstances . Note: Enter this and all
further costs in this question to 2 decimal places.
The manager of the drive-through restaurant could choose to build and staff extra serving booths if
it resulted in an overall cost saving. However, the additional space required would mean a
reduction in the space for cars to wait for service for each additional booth, two waiting spaces
are lost.
To minimise costs, additional booths should be built. The waiting space is reduced to . This
achieves a minimum hourly cost of.

A factory has several departments. A department may have many employees but must have at
least seven. Every employee works for one and only one department. Every department has a
manager -- only one manager per department. A manager is an employee of the company, but not
all employees are managers. A department may have many machines, and every machine is
assigned to a specific department. Products are produced on machines. A product can be an
assembly of several different components or a single piece. Every product goes through one or
more machines for appropriate production operations. Likewise, several products may go through
a particular machine for a production operation. The employee has a first name, last name, and
middle name, gender, address, and salary. An employee number uniquely identifies an employee.
Departments have departments name, type, and location. The department's name and number
are both unique identifier of a department. Every machine will have a unique machine number,
name, type, and vendor's name.
When a machine goes for maintenance, the date of maintenance must be captured, since a
maintenance activity is identified by the date of the maintenance for each machine. The attributes
of maintenance activity are time taken and cost.
A product is identified by its component ID, component name, and description.

A generic queue is a general queue storage that can store an.pdfADITIHERBAL
A generic queue is a general queue storage that can store an unlimited number of objects.
In this lab, you need to implement two types of the generic queue including Queue and Deque.
The Java code of this module includes a class that represent Queues and was mentioned briefly
during the lecture, therefore if you need to, please revisit the java code.
The second special type of containers is called a Deque. A deque is a special type of queue that is
double ended. It means that elements can be added to the queue at both ends and removing can
be from both ends. In essence, a deque follows both a FIFO (First in, First out) and a LIFO (Last
In, First Out) rules to insert/remove from/to the queue. This means that a deque can play the role
of a queue and a stack at the same time. You can imagine a stack as a plate dispenser. When you
add a plate, you add it to the top of the dispenser. When you remove a plate, you remove it from
the top again. However, for a queue, you can imagine a queue of students waiting in line. The first
student who comes into the line is the first student served and hence removed from the line.
For the stack behavior of a deque, there are two main and two auxiliary methods:
push(object): This method adds the object to the stack. IN other words, the object is added at the
front.
pop(): removes the last element that was added, from the stack. In other words, the object is
removed from the front.
top(): returns the element, which is at the top of the stack, without removing it.
getSize(): returns the number of elements in the stack.
Your job for this lab, is to complete GenericQueue, Queue and Deque class. I have written a
comment, where you need to insert your code.
3.1. Class GenericQueue
The names of the methods in this class explain themselves. If you need more clarification, please
read the javaDoc for these methods.
3.2. Class Queue
While Queue Is-A generic queue, it follows the rule of Queue data structure (FIFO), therefore all
the methods should be implemented in a way that the rule is followed.
This class has an instance variable that holds all the items. The rest of the methods are self-
explanatory.
3.3. Class Deque
The Deque class is a special type of a Queue that was explained above. So the deque acts as a
queue and has additional methods that represent the stack behaviour.
This class has a constructor that uses the list that contains the data. To implement the rest of the
methods see their javaDoc.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
