- Will do a quick introduction of NSC, then talk about our Rx Nation Report, then give an update on some of the emerging policies states are considering. I’ll wrap up with questions.
- Our mission is simple – to save lives. We are a 100 year old organization that started to make workplaces safer. Our mission has since expanded to include make our homes, communities and roads safer.
- Our vision is to eliminate preventable deaths in our lifetime. It is ambitious, but it is not impossible. It can be done if we commit to building a culture of safety, together.
- Knowledge is our best defense. Research tells us that 1 in 3 people have been directly impacted by opioids, the most fatal drug crisis in recorded history. This tool combines the latest research on employment costs with data from National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) to calculate how much substance misuse and abuse in your workforce costs employers. These materials will help employers understand the impact of prescription opioid use and misuse in the workplace and effectively communicate with employees. Information below covers drug testing, workers' compensation, prevention and more. The memorial puts a face on the worst drug crisis in recorded United States history, personalizing an issue that has been declared a public health emergency in 2017.
- Significant progress since 2016 report: Went from 26 states failing to just 7 Went from 46 states needing improvement to 30 Went from just 5 states making progress to 13 states & DC improving
- From 2016 Report, expanded indicators for PDMP and added Data Sharing key action. Also dropped the pill mill action in response to shift in best practices
- Legislatures considered nearly 500 bills this past session (not including treatment, recovery or criminal justice bills)
