Gear Pump (Hydraulic Fan) - Remove and Install
SMCS - 1387-010-GT; 5073-010-HFN
Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Remove the fuel transfer pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Transfer Pump -
Remove and Install".
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.
Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the
engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is
not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.
Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before
removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when
the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with
your bare hand.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Remove coupling (1) from gear pump (2).
2. Disconnect two hoses (3) from gear pump (2) and lay the hoses aside.

3. Remove two bolts (4) and the washers in order to remove gear pump (2) from the machine.
4. Remove O-ring seal (5) from gear pump (2).
Installation Procedure
1. Install gear pump (2) in the reverse order of removal.

Start By:
a. Remove the gear pump (Hydraulic Fan). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump
(Hydraulic Fan) - Remove and Install".
1. Remove O-ring seal (1) and two elbows (2) from gear pump (3).

2. Place the gear pump on suitable cribbing and remove adapter (4). Remove four bolts (5) in
order to remove plate (6) from housing (7).
3. Remove two dowels (8), seal (9) and pressure plate (10) from housing (7).
4. Remove seal (11) and backup seal (12) from pressure plate (10).

5. Remove gear shaft (13) and idler gear (14) from housing (7).
6. Remove pressure plate (15) from housing (7). Refer to step 4 in order to remove the seals.
7. Remove housing (7) from flange (16).

8. Remove seal (17) from housing (7).
9. Use a suitable pin punch in order to remove lip seal (19) from flange (16). Use tool (A) and
remove two rings (20). Use the pin punch to remove lip seal (21).

1. On assembly, lubricate all internal components with the lubricant that is being sealed.

2. Use tool (B) to install lip seal (21) with the lip of the seal toward flange (16). Use tool (A)
to install two retaining rings (20) into the ring grooves in flange (16). Use tool (B) to install
lip seal (19) with the lip of the seal away from flange (16).
3. Install two dowels (18) into flange (16).
4. Install seal (17) into housing (7).

5. Align housing (7) with the dowel in flange (16) and position the housing on the flange.
6. Install pressure plate (15) into housing (7). Refer to step 8 for the installation of the seals.
7. Install idler gear (14) and gear shaft (13) into housing (7).

8. Install seal (11) and backup seal (12) into pressure plate (10).
9. Carefully install pressure plate (10) onto housing (7). Install seal (9) and two dowels (8).
10. Align plate (6) with the two dowels in housing (7) and install four bolts (5). Tighten the
bolts to a torque of 44.5 ± 3.5 N·m (33 ± 2.5 lb ft). Install adapter (4).

11. Install two elbows (2) and O-ring seal (1) to gear pump (3).
End By:
a. Install the gear pump (Hydraulic Fan). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump
(Hydraulic Fan)- Install".

a. Remove the piston pump.
1. Remove bolts (1) and valve (2).

2. Remove gasket (3).
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
3. Remove adjustment screw (4), housing (5), O-ring seal (6), spring (7), spring (8), and
retainer (9).

4. Remove adjustment screw (10), nut (11), housing (12), O-ring seal (13), spring (14), spring
(15), retainer (17), and screw (16).
5. Remove spool (18) and spool (19).

7. Remove O-ring seals (22), port plate (23), and bearing cup (24).

9. Remove piston (28) and bearing cone (29).

11. Turn the pump housing over 180 degrees and hold the components in the pump housing.
Remove pump housing (31) from bearing cone (32), swashplate (33), and rotating group
(34).
12. Remove shaft (35) and bearing cone (32) from swashplate (33) and rotating group (34).
13. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press in order to remove shaft (35) from bearing cone (32).
