There are two main types of generators: AC generators and DC generators. AC generators produce alternating current as the armature coil rotates between magnetic poles, with the slip rings making contact with the same brush to generate AC. DC generators similarly rotate an armature coil between magnetic poles but produce direct current, as the connection between the split rings and brush changes with each half rotation.
