Town Hall Thread 1 (1-3 ARB)

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Welcome to the 3rd CAB Town Hall Meeting. This is LTC Brian
Schaap I am looking forward to your questions. Additionally, CSM Dove and my wife Tobi are here to help.

Tiffany St John Hello! Just wondering about the Eagle Card (I think that's what it's called). When does he get
that and what's the best way to use it when he's deployed? Does a portion of the paycheck go directly on it or do I
have to keep putting more money on it? Just some more information would be great. Thank you!

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Hi Tiffany, thanks for the question. Your spouse will get the
Eagle Card during the Soldier Readiness Processing later this month. He can recharge the card down range
through finance or a kiosk.

Tiffany St John Thank you! Also, he mentioned something about tough boxes. He may already know the answer
to this, but I'm going to ask anyway. Will he get a tough box to pack before deployment? Or does he have to buy
some of the stuff when he's over there?

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page The Army has provided a ruck sack and duffle bags to pack
his equipment. Anything else he would like, he will need to purchase. The official packing list will be published this
week. Thanks

Tiffany St John Great, thank you! :)

Tobi Lynne Schaap I know there are questions out there viper families...we are here for you

Stephanie Pruitt How do we file taxes? I believe the soldiers don't have to file until after they return from
deployment, but what about spouses? Not sure a general POA covers filing joint taxes.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Thanks Stephanie. My wife has filed our taxes several times
with a general power of attorney. You will have 180 days after your spouse returns from a combat zone to file.
Great question!

Stephanie Pruitt Thanks! Wasn't exactly sure spouses were included in the 180 days, but if a power of attorney
works for taxes then there shouldn't be a problem.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Additionally, you can contact the HAAF legal office at 912-
315-5115.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Thanks for all the wonderful questions. We appreciate your
continued sacrifices and are proud to serve with you.
Town Hall Thread 2 (2-3 GSAB)

Jenna Hayth What is a blue card and how do we going about getting one? I know that it’s some type of card you
get just before, during and for the month after deployment and I've heard it’s also for a sitter and sports. Just
curious as to how we go about getting one :)

Jenna Hayth Hope that made sense, it’s been a long day, sorry. Lol

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Jenna, I think you are referring to the 16 hours of child care
at CYSS. If that is what you are asking, once we have our deployment orders, you will take that document over
and they will schedule you for the childcare.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Our deployment orders should be issued in the next 30 days
and will show up in the digital military records on Army Knowledge Online

Amanda Golomboski Do deployments dates come out with the orders that will be cut soon?

Taylor Ringo also, do you know when the soldiers will be getting the packing list for deployment

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page @Amanda, your Soldier should know his deployment dates. I
can’t post them directly here for security reasons.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page @Taylor, the packing list was sent out yesterday. Your Soldier
will draw his Afghanistan equipment tomorrow or Friday (depending on our schedule).

Kathryn Gagnon When will the Care Package address' be released?

Jenna Hayth Thank you!

3CAB mailing address information will be published NLT 01 Nov. Thanks for the question.
Town Hall Thread 3 (3-17 CAV)

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Hey everyone, don't hesitate to ask questions. Can't promise
the spelling will be correct on the answer, but you will have an answer.

Irene Kedrowski When will deployment orders be issued? Thanks

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Thanks for the question; in about 30 days. Once we complete
SRP orders will be generated and issued out.

Irene Kedrowski Great to know, thanks for the quick response!

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Our pleasure, thanks for breaking the ice.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page We're completed here. Thanks for participating.
Town Hall Thread 4 (4-3 AHB)

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Welcome

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page This is LTC Alia the 4-3 AHB Battalion Commander, Welcome
to our Facebook Townhall!

Rebecca Golden LTC Alia, Thank you for your time! Will there be a formal send off for our Heroes? Will families
be provided time and space to say goodbye before their soldiers get on their flights?

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Rebecca, thank you for your question (LTC Alia here). The
plan right now is that prior to each flight, Soldiers will have time with their families at the hangar and have an
opportunity for "Good Byes" then the Soldiers will board busses and go to the departure airfield (different location
on Hunter) for their final manifest and departure. Obviously, as we get closer to departing we'll have times for
each flight and a timeline for farewells. I hope I have answered your question.

Marilyn Porter Griffin I'm the parent of a single young man in 4-3. We live in Michigan. What type of
information and/or support can out-of state parents expect from the Family Resource and Readiness Group since,
obviously, we don't live at Hunter and have a young family there?

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page I'm LTC Alia the Battalion Commander for 4-3 AHB, Ms. Griffin
thank you very much for your question. Great question, by the way! Please ensure that your son has given your
contact information to the company Family Readiness Group (FRG) leader or his Platoon leader who will get the
information to the FRG Leader. We will be sending out information every 90 days prior to deployment and every
30 days during the deployment. If we have your e-mail we can add you to our distro list to ensure you are getting
the most accurate and recent information we have. Also, we will create a deployed Facebook page prior to our
departure where you can keep up with the unit's activities in Afghanistan. We also have books coming in for
parents of Soldiers to help explain some terminology and some challenges that families and Soldiers face during
deployments. If your son gets us your mailing address we'll be sure to provide you a copy. I hope this answers
your question.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Thanks to everyone that participated or just followed along
with us tonight on our first FACEBOOK Townhall. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to contact
our Family Readiness Support Assistant Ms. Nicky Cotton at 912.315.2285 or e-mail nakia.m.cotton@us.army.mil
who can help you with any issues you may have.

Marilyn Porter Griffin Thanks, yes it does answer my question. I know my son has given our e-mail address to
someone there already, as he spoke to us about that. The book for parents of soldiers explaining terminology
sounds great!
Town Hall Thread 5 (603rd ASB)

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd CDR, Welcome to the 3CAB Town Hall. Any Questions?

Yakini Song Bird Wisdom When will the soldiers individually know if their deploying.

Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers When will a packing list be given out as to what personal care items to take and
size.

Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers Also, I am co-leader for Bravo Company. I would like to know if we have all of our
rosters.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @Yakini Wisdom, Thank you for your question.
Soldiers already know if they are deploying or if they are remaining on Rear Detachment.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @ Tammy Biggers, Thanks. The official packing list
will be published by Brigade tomorrow and delivered to the Soldiers through their Company Commander and 1SG.
We can also provide this information during next weeks 603rd predeployment briefing on 11 Oct.

Yakini Song Bird Wisdom I am in another part of the city 4 hrs away. How will i get info distributed to me if the
FRG doesn't have my updated information.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @ Tammy Biggers, The individual companies are
updating their FRG Rosters. Soldiers and Family Members will be given a FRG Family Information Sheet next week
so they can provide updated family information. Yet another reason to encourage Family Members to attend next
week’s BN Predeployment Briefing on 11 Oct. Thanks.

Emily Louise McMullen-Oehlerich Contact your frg leader. Yakini

Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers Yakini please PM your information and I will make sure it gets to the right person.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @ Yakini Wisdom, send your updated contact
information to A Company's FRG Leader or our BN FRSA at celena.g.smith.civ@mail.mil

Yakini Song Bird Wisdom Ok thank you

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @ Abi DaVis, Thanks for your question. The orders
were already given to move him to the 603rd but individual deployment orders will be published by approximately
9 November.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @ Yakini Wisdom, Thanks. Send your updated
contact information to our BN FRSA at celena.g.smith.civ@mail.mil

Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers At next week’s meeting will they have a handout or go over what can and cannot
be sent in a care package. The reason I ask is our last deployment soldiers got in trouble for some things that
were sent .

Yakini Song Bird Wisdom Roger that Sir

Lisa Chambers Simpson Jackson Yakini, call me. (931) 538-8761 Your FRG Leader is Stephanie Jernigan. I will
give you her contact info. :-)

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Hello 603rd ASB family members! This is an interruption from
your Chaplain, check out thread #7 below for additional info and resources for the upcoming deployment. PEACE
Yakini Song Bird Wisdom Thanks Mrs
Lisa good seeing your face on here.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @ Tammy Biggers, Great question. We already
have a prepared briefing that discusses mailing procedures and prohibited items.

Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers Thank you very much!!!

Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers Will we be able to park by the airstrip and watch the planes take off?

Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers I'm sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to think of things that people have
asked me.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @Tammy Biggers, Great question for everyone to
think about. Family Members will farewell Soldiers at one of the unit hangers and a bus will move the Soldiers to
the holding area for the departing flight. Family members are physically able to watch the planes take off from our
BN headquarters area or any other public area on HAAF...but there may be a few hours or more between the
family farewell and the actual departure of the flight.

Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers Thank you...

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @ Tammy Biggers, I'm glad you’re asking. These
questions help us prepare our comments for the predeployment briefing.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Thanks for participating in the Town Hall. Please communicate
with your Company FRGs and/or attend the 603rd Predeployment Briefings on 11 October. We'll have plenty of
resources and information to share. 603rd Command Team.

questions you have!

Mayi Suarez I just want to know if there will be capabilities of VTC while they are deployed

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Yes there will be. It will be set up in the Brigade
Headquarters. Each Soldier will also have access to local internet and should be able to Skype as well.

Mayi Suarez Thank you

Mayi Suarez who is the FRG or FRSA for HHC?

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page My pleasure Mayi Suarez.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Hi Mayi, this is Christine Bet, the FRG leader. If ever you have
any questions, please feel free to contact me. You can find me on facebook as: Talonfrgleader

Mayi Suarez Tks ...I will

further questions fell free to find me, CPT Adam Bet, or the FRG leader, Talonfrgleader.
Town Hall Thread 7 (Chaplain)

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Hello everyone!! Feel free to ask any questions or concerns
for your Chaplain.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page The 3rd CAB BDE Chaplain and all 5 BN Chaplains will be
deploying with their units. However, Chaplain Pete Dubinin will remain here at Hunter for soldiers and all family
members. Please know you have a Chaplain to talk with and assist you and your family.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page There will be a service, especially for 3CAB soldiers deploying,
November 11th at the Post Chapel (@Hunter) from 0900-1000. All are welcome.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page There will be an additional deployment celebration meal
November 17th at 1st Bryan Baptist Church (downtown Savannah). The meal is free and all soldiers and family
members are invited. If you choose, you can bring a side item or dessert.

JuttanEdward Kobel Are there Sunday Church service available on Hunter? Thank you, Jutta.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Club Beyond is also a resource for teens. They are a youth
group that gathers together every Wednesday to hang out and discuss life, laughter, love and relationships. You
can contact the Chapel on Hunter for info on meeting time & location.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Hello Jutta! Yes, there are two services. The first is at 0900-
1000 at the Post Chapel. The next is the Catholic service at 1100.
Town Hall Thread 8 (Surgeon)

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page LTC Mack Easty, 3rd CAB Brigade Surgeon here to answer
questions
Cab Frg MAJ John Gartside, 3rd CAB Brigade Surgeon (incoming) here to answer questions.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page LTC Easty here. Just want to tell all the families, this is the
time of the year to get your flu shot!

JuttanEdward Kobel I never had a Flu shot. What exactly is in this shot and how does it work? My concern is
side effects. Thank you Jutta.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page MAJ Gartside: There arte two types of influenza vaccine. One
is called Flumist which is inhaled (active/live) and the traditional shot (inactive). They both have mild upper
respiratory side effects to include things like runny nose, congestion and fatigue, but are much milder than getting
the flu. The traditional shot may also have redness and muscle soreness at the injection site. Both vaccines have
rare change of allergic reactions, but if you have had other vaccines in the past this would be exceptionally rare.
The shot also should not be gotten if you have any history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome(GBS). For more information
visit the CDC website at www.cdc.gov.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page LTC Easty: As MAJ Gartside said, there are two main types of
vaccine, the mist which you inhale, which is the live (attenuated or weakened) virus and the shot which is the
inactive virus vaccine. If you have contact with people who have a weakened immune system, such as a person
with HIV/AIDS, you should avoid the mist because it's possible to spread influenza to them, and in that case you
should get the shot.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page You can get your flu vaccine at whichever clinic you go to for
primary care

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page MAJ Gartside: Thank you for your interest in today's Town
Hall. Signing out.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page LTC Easty: Thank you everyone for your participation in this
Town Hall Meeting. LTC Easty signing off.
Town Hall Thread 9 (Legal)

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Good evening. The 3CAB legal team looks forward to
answering any questions you may have for us.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Have you thought about a Power of Attorney (POA) before
you deploy? A POA is one of the strongest legal documents that an individual can give to another person. A POA is
a document that enables a designated person to act in your behalf. This person is called an agent or attorney-in-
fact. A POA is used in situations where you are not available to personally take care of your affairs. Acts performed
by your agent are legally binding upon you. Thus, a general POA should only be used when absolutely necessary.
Your agent should be mature, able to exercise good judgment, and be intelligent. Please note that third parties
(Banks, businesses, etc.) are not required to accept your POA. Check with the particular bank or business before
obtaining or using a POA to be sure that it will be accepted. Some businesses have their own POA forms.
You can obtain a power of attorney on a walk-in basis at the legal assistance office.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Have you considered updating your will? Married couples are
encouraged to schedule joint appointments. Please contact the Legal Assistance Office at Hunter Army Airfield
(315-5115) or Fort Stewart (767-8819) to schedule an appointment.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Thank you for your questions this evening and please feel free
to contact the Legal Assistance Office on Hunter Army Airfield (315-5115) with any specific issues you'd like for us
to review.
Town Hall Thread 10 (Col. Pepin)

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Hello, this is COL Al Pepin and Welcome to 3rd CAB's Town
Hall Meeting.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page The ability of our Soldiers to perform their duties to standard
is directly related to the training they receive, their leadership, AND knowledge their Families are prepared for
times of separation. Part of this is strength comes with knowledge units/FRGs will be there for them during a
crisis.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Have you discussed contingencies with Soldier/Family?
Finances, medical, vehicle maintenance, unexpected family travel, power of attorneys, wills, insurance, bill
payments, etc...These impact all Soldiers of all ranks.

Cab Frg Resiliency is comprised of five components. They are Physical, Spiritual, Emotional, Family and Social.
Improving each increases the ability to handle life's stresses along with unique stresses of military service and
deployments. Resiliency is key to managing stresses and maintaining hope in times of crisis. FGSA/HAAF
Community provides many services to assist in each of these areas.

3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page I remain truly inspired by the capabilities of our Marne
Air/Dog Face Soldiers and their Families. Selfless service is an honorable value. Most who have never worn the
uniform or supported a loved one in uniform will never understand the true meaning, but those who serve know
the sacrifices that come with it. The words "thank you" do not capture the honor of serving with and for you, but
thank you and your Families that enable you to serve our nation. Remember, less than .03% of our nation's
population serve!

  • 6. Yakini Song Bird Wisdom Thanks Mrs Lisa good seeing your face on here. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @ Tammy Biggers, Great question. We already have a prepared briefing that discusses mailing procedures and prohibited items. Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers Thank you very much!!! Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers Will we be able to park by the airstrip and watch the planes take off? Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers I'm sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to think of things that people have asked me. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @Tammy Biggers, Great question for everyone to think about. Family Members will farewell Soldiers at one of the unit hangers and a bus will move the Soldiers to the holding area for the departing flight. Family members are physically able to watch the planes take off from our BN headquarters area or any other public area on HAAF...but there may be a few hours or more between the family farewell and the actual departure of the flight. Tammy Rene' Smith Biggers Thank you... 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page 603rd Cdr, @ Tammy Biggers, I'm glad you’re asking. These questions help us prepare our comments for the predeployment briefing. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Thanks for participating in the Town Hall. Please communicate with your Company FRGs and/or attend the 603rd Predeployment Briefings on 11 October. We'll have plenty of resources and information to share. 603rd Command Team.

  • 9. Town Hall Thread 8 (Surgeon) 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page LTC Mack Easty, 3rd CAB Brigade Surgeon here to answer questions Cab Frg MAJ John Gartside, 3rd CAB Brigade Surgeon (incoming) here to answer questions. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page LTC Easty here. Just want to tell all the families, this is the time of the year to get your flu shot! JuttanEdward Kobel I never had a Flu shot. What exactly is in this shot and how does it work? My concern is side effects. Thank you Jutta. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page MAJ Gartside: There arte two types of influenza vaccine. One is called Flumist which is inhaled (active/live) and the traditional shot (inactive). They both have mild upper respiratory side effects to include things like runny nose, congestion and fatigue, but are much milder than getting the flu. The traditional shot may also have redness and muscle soreness at the injection site. Both vaccines have rare change of allergic reactions, but if you have had other vaccines in the past this would be exceptionally rare. The shot also should not be gotten if you have any history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome(GBS). For more information visit the CDC website at www.cdc.gov. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page LTC Easty: As MAJ Gartside said, there are two main types of vaccine, the mist which you inhale, which is the live (attenuated or weakened) virus and the shot which is the inactive virus vaccine. If you have contact with people who have a weakened immune system, such as a person with HIV/AIDS, you should avoid the mist because it's possible to spread influenza to them, and in that case you should get the shot. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page You can get your flu vaccine at whichever clinic you go to for primary care 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page MAJ Gartside: Thank you for your interest in today's Town Hall. Signing out. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page LTC Easty: Thank you everyone for your participation in this Town Hall Meeting. LTC Easty signing off.
  • 10. Town Hall Thread 9 (Legal) 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Good evening. The 3CAB legal team looks forward to answering any questions you may have for us. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Have you thought about a Power of Attorney (POA) before you deploy? A POA is one of the strongest legal documents that an individual can give to another person. A POA is a document that enables a designated person to act in your behalf. This person is called an agent or attorney-in- fact. A POA is used in situations where you are not available to personally take care of your affairs. Acts performed by your agent are legally binding upon you. Thus, a general POA should only be used when absolutely necessary. Your agent should be mature, able to exercise good judgment, and be intelligent. Please note that third parties (Banks, businesses, etc.) are not required to accept your POA. Check with the particular bank or business before obtaining or using a POA to be sure that it will be accepted. Some businesses have their own POA forms. You can obtain a power of attorney on a walk-in basis at the legal assistance office. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Have you considered updating your will? Married couples are encouraged to schedule joint appointments. Please contact the Legal Assistance Office at Hunter Army Airfield (315-5115) or Fort Stewart (767-8819) to schedule an appointment. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Thank you for your questions this evening and please feel free to contact the Legal Assistance Office on Hunter Army Airfield (315-5115) with any specific issues you'd like for us to review.
  • 11. Town Hall Thread 10 (Col. Pepin) 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Hello, this is COL Al Pepin and Welcome to 3rd CAB's Town Hall Meeting. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page The ability of our Soldiers to perform their duties to standard is directly related to the training they receive, their leadership, AND knowledge their Families are prepared for times of separation. Part of this is strength comes with knowledge units/FRGs will be there for them during a crisis. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page Have you discussed contingencies with Soldier/Family? Finances, medical, vehicle maintenance, unexpected family travel, power of attorneys, wills, insurance, bill payments, etc...These impact all Soldiers of all ranks. Cab Frg Resiliency is comprised of five components. They are Physical, Spiritual, Emotional, Family and Social. Improving each increases the ability to handle life's stresses along with unique stresses of military service and deployments. Resiliency is key to managing stresses and maintaining hope in times of crisis. FGSA/HAAF Community provides many services to assist in each of these areas. 3rd CAB Family Resource and Readiness Page I remain truly inspired by the capabilities of our Marne Air/Dog Face Soldiers and their Families. Selfless service is an honorable value. Most who have never worn the uniform or supported a loved one in uniform will never understand the true meaning, but those who serve know the sacrifices that come with it. The words "thank you" do not capture the honor of serving with and for you, but thank you and your Families that enable you to serve our nation. Remember, less than .03% of our nation's population serve!
