4. The Challenge:
Drivers with Insulin treated diabetes
...must always carry their glucose meter, blood glucose strips, an emergency supply of
fast-acting carbohydrate such as glucose tablets and/or glucagon within easy reach.
...must check their blood glucose before their first journey and every 2 hours whilst driving.
...If blood glucose is 5.0mmol/l or less, take a snack. If it's less than 4.0mmol/l or they feel
hypoglycaemic, do not drive and wait 45 minutes after blood glucose levels have recovered.
...must on sensing Hypoglycemia bring their car to a stop somewhere safe, switch off their
Engine, remove the keys from the ignition and move from the drivers seat.
...must have 3 months of blood glucose readings available (for Professional Drivers)
