7. HCI project background (2016 to date)
In the beginning:
Dispersed technology architectures (EMC, Dell, NetApp and Cisco...)
Isolated resources for managing IT infrastructure
3rd party resources needed
Capacity was running out on some systems
Vendor maintenance was running out on some systems
Nutanix pilot project started October 2016
Statistics: about 1700 virtual machines, 6 datacenters, more than 1PB
of data, about 500 applications.

8. HCI project goals
New solution that would be highly virtualised and enable
seamless expansion of resources (scale-out)
One support organisation able to support all geographic areas
Support 2M-IT growth plan economically (pay as you grow) and
with low risks (technology maturity)
Support different applications, both clinical data and traditional
ones, with single technology platfrom

9. Why Nutanix?
Decision was made by IT professional team after careful
investigation
Most mature technology
Open architecture (no vendor locks)
Support for mission critical, active-active IT architecture (data
protection)
Very quick as-is migration
Empowering in-house support team

10. Experiences so far
(18 months of production)
Initial purchase early 2017, planned for 1/3 of total capacity:
Almost 2/3 of total capacity was fitted (2x performance)
None of the expansions or upgrades required downtime (almost 100% uptime)
A very quick migration (just 3 weeks), during July-August 2017.
Expansion late 2017:
All the 1700 virtual machines now run over Nutanix Platform, about 60% with
Metro clustering enabled for them.
Next step is use to use Acropolis Block Services for un-virtualised resources
(merely Oracle databases).
Zero downtime caused by IT operations

11. Return of Investment
This platform replaced separate IT environment worth:
4 whole racks with 6 rack units per datacenter
Reduced power and cooling consumption with -80%
Reduced external consulting days
There is no extra, unused capacity in the system:
Utilisation constantly between 70% to 80%
Growth plan 100% aligned to 2M-IT ICT perspective:
All the new datacenter sites can be operated similarly by one team
