1. BOUGAINVILLE
Ned begay experienced the new terrain of bougainville, which had alot of forest lands that he was
used to.and also contained mountains and valcanos. These were things he had never seen before. He
was astounded that he was able to experience seeing them. Yet because of the war, things were
wrecked and war torn
2. BOUGAINVILLE
Throughout the time Ned spent in Bougainville He had to take pills so he wouldnt get
malaria, and sleep in foxholes which were filled up with water from it raining alot on the
island.
3. BOUGAINVILLE
During there time staying in the foxholes, it was
very dangerous for soldiers to be there. The Axis
forces could and would kill there friend who was
sleeping next to you during the cover of night.
4. BOUGAINVILLE
During WW2 Ned had a chance to meet Joe
Kennedy, who was serving the Navy. But Ned was
too shy to go over and say hello with smitty. Smitty
was Neds protecter and was to look out for Ned
consisting the fact that he was Native.
5. Ned got letters from his sister, which made
him miss home alot. She would tell him about
school and how she had the same teachers from
when he was in school. So he sent one home to
his family which he wrote “Dear parents, Here
are my clothes, still stained with the blood sweat
and mud from Bougainville. Please use these to
stand for me in a protection ceremony”
