framed shots of the artist are often used in order to
establish a focus upon them and centralised them in
their video.
Chiaroscuro lighting is also a common technique used

The close up enclosed shots of both the Kendrick Lamar (top left) and Katy Perry
(top centre) videos feature very low key lighting in order to add to the heavier
beats to the audio accompanying them, applying the tension of the rising beat.
However the close up from the Bebe Rexha video (top right) demonstrates the
same type of shot however with high key lighting in order to create a much
brighter atmosphere as the audio accompanying the visuals is less dramatic.

The urban pop themes of Meyers videos is mirrored throughout both the
types of videos he directs and there locations and sets. There's a running
similarities of an urban location used as a set for many of the videos Meyers
has directed in order to reinforce the urban pop them of the videos and add a
relatable location for audience to familiarise with.

This video was shot within a three day period and
focuses on various different sets in order to it with the
songs theme about searching for someone.
The video feature the chiaroscuro lighting that
Dave Meyers uses in much of his work along with
the Bokeh effect with the lighting. Close up shots
of the focal artist in this case Rihanna in order to
fit with the stereotypes of pop music videos as
well as shape the visuals around the artist for the
audiences benefit.
