Here is my Summative Assessment for this unit on Child Rights. Hope you understand what I understand about Rights, Actions, Opportunities & Circumstances after this Keynote.
2. Every Child, Small or
Tall...
Every child, big or small, short or tall, white or black,
have what are called Rights. Rights are expectations or
claims we have of our governments to help us fulfill our
potentials in life. Rights protect us from harm and hurt.
3. Every Child Has The Right
To Play...
Article 31
For me, this is one of the most important rights of the
child. The right to play gives your brain a break from
education. (Yet another of the 54 rights of the child.)
Many kids are denied the Right to play because they are
busy laboring or they don’t have enough money.
4. Every Child has the Right to
Protection from Kidnapping...
Article 11
This is quite an important one, and it supports the
Right for your parents to raise you. No one wants to be
kidnapped, right? But some kids are little and
defenseless so they have no choice but to give up and go
along with the kidnapping. Some kids are kidnapped for
bonded labor.
5. Every Child has the Right to
Rest...
Article 31
Rest is a very important Right for Children. It gives
them a chance for their brains to rest for education the
next day. But where do they sleep? It depends where
they live, and how wealthy they are. Many kids are poor
and can’t afford a safe place to sleep.
6. Every Child has the
Right to Privacy...
Article 16Every once and a while, I
just want to be alone. Don’t
you? Some kids don’t have
the opportunity to be
alone. Most times because
of over population.
Imagine being squashed in
a room with 56 people. It
would be awful.
7. Every Child has the
Right to Water...
Article 24Water is what we need to
survive. (Apart from food)
And it is very serious that
not all kids get enough
water. Water hydrates you
and gives you energy for
the next day. When you are
thirsty, you drink water.
When many other kids are
thirsty, they have to live
with it.
8. Every Child has the Right to
Food...
Article 24
Food is important to every day life because we would
die without it. Food gives you energy to play and learn.
It is sad that not all kids have access to good food, but
people all over the world are fighting to end world
hunger. Activities such as food drives, code systems, ect.
9. Every Child has the Right to
choose their friends...
Article 15
I have many friends, and I bet that you do too. I don’t
really understand this Right, but I get the outline. Some
kids don’t have access to friends at all, while others take
it for granted. All I can say is, I am glad to have many
good friends that care about me. Many are not so lucky.
10. Children have the Right to
Protection from Harm...
Article 19
I don’t like getting hurt, and I am sure that no one else
does either. But there are some people out there that
deny this Right and harm others in horrendous ways.
Police take Action to prevent this from happening, but,
sadly, you can’t really stop it completely.
11. Proving the Central Idea...
“Actions can support or deny access to rights and
opportunities.”
I know the Central Idea is true because:
1. If you get a bad grade on your math test, your parents
might not let you do a summer camp.
2. Iqbal cuts the special blue carpet, therefore getting
sent to the tomb for 4 days.
3. The School of St.Jude accepts a Tanzanian child into
their school, therefore opening up many doors of
opportunities to the family.
4. My dad gets a job that requires my family to move to
HK, thus supporting an opportunity to see different
places.

5B to Help Prevent and Stop Child Hunger! (In HK)
Our grade is participating in a Food Drive created and
organized by The Awesome Action group. (Prize for
most food collected by 7/6/13 is an ice-cream party) So
far, 5B are winning and we have raised 103 items of food
and in first place at the moment. Even if we don’t win,
we have still raised 103 non-perishable food items to
donate to a charity that gives the food to people with
no money to buy food in Hong Kong.
Go 5B!
14. Remember your Rights, and
that you have a Right to have
Them!
I hope that presentation demonstrated my
understanding of the Central Idea
Thank You!
