Overall Effect: The lyricsare quite ambiguous,one interpretationisthatit’saboutmental health,
and more specificallyabout"aparanoid schizophrenic”,whichaccordingtoanarticle was a friend
of frontman Kele Okereke.Otherexplanations are thatittalksaboutsomeone thatdoesn’t
necessarilyhave schizophreniabutislosingcontrol andthat the voicesare people tryingtoreach
out to them. The musicvideowill be aboutaperson (maybe that’sstill inschool,embracingthe
school mise-en-scene) whohearsvoicesandmusichelpsthemasasort of escapism.The audience is
ledto believe atthe startthat the protagonistisina bandwithtwo otherpeople,howeverthese
people aren’treal and are an intertextual reference to the matrix’s:blue–blissof ignorance,andred

 It couldalsobe usedfor entertainment,asI’mplanningonkeepingthe videofast
paced,with the cuttingbetweenperformance shotsand the protagonist’slife,and
there is a plottwistat the endto make the viewerquestionwhattheyhadseen
before.
 I thinkitwouldconforminsome ways,as indie musicvideosoftenhave blackand
white colourgrading.AlthoughI’mgoingtokeepinthe redandblue. The videoisn’t
goingto feature the artists,ratherthat the videowill focusonasetof characters,
whichisperhapsnot soconventional tothe genre orthe artist,as Bloc party usually
