This document summarizes research characterizing the leaf morphology of native Begonia plants in the collections of the Botanic Gardens of Indonesia. Researchers observed 73 native Begonia species using qualitative and quantitative methods to describe unique leaf characteristics. They found 12 species with interesting leaf traits, like asymmetry and long shapes. The highest scoring species for ornamental potential were B. Irmsch brevirimosa, B. Brevirimosa subsp. Exotica Tebbitt, and B. goegoensis, indicating they may be good candidates for developing new cultivars. The study aims to promote native Begonia species as foliage ornamental plants.
