WHAT IS THE COLISEUM?
▪ The largest and most famous symbol of the Roman Empire, the
Colosseum was a huge amphitheater reserved for combats between
gladiators or pitting these warriors against wild animals.
WHEN WAS THE COLISEUM
BUILT?
▪ Construction of the Colosseum in
Rome began in 72 AD, under
Emperor Vespasian. It was only
completed in 80 AD.
WHERE WAS THE COLISEUM
BUILT?
•Rome/ Italy.
CURIOSITY ABOUT THE
COLISEUM.
▪ The Coliseum is 45 meters high, which corresponds to a two-
story building.
▪ The Colosseum was built with concrete and sand. Stone,
marble and tile were also used.
▪ In Ancient Rome, it housed between 50 and 80 thousand
people. It had around 80 stairs, which made it easier for so
many people to leave.
▪ The arena measured 87.5 meters by 55 meters.
