2. Q1. Annotations of Music Magazine cover Masthead – title is one word relates to music and lyrics, also the genre. Unique bold font, biggest text on the page. The title is situated along the whole of the page, covers the whole width of the colour Positioning statement – above the magazine title. It supplies an insight into/about the magazine - ‘Music artists in the making’ suggests the genre is about new, young and popular music The date is situated underneath the masthead in a smaller font Main image – is the artist posing with headphones, slightly looking away which conveys attitude. In the photograph the use of light illuminates the artist’s face, also creating shadows; thus following the conventions of using lights to show a creative use of photography skills Colour scheme – it is constant and follows the conventions of colour schemes in magazines. Red is used on the front cover Cover lines – are two or three lines long, give an insight to the content of the magazine, thus provoking the target audience to buy the magazine in as few words as possible Main Cover Line – second largest text on the cover after the title, it anchors the main image ‘we ask the readers’ relates to the audience as its people like them whose voice have made it onto clear black and white and is being displayed in a new and young music magazine. Strap line – attracts the target audience by including additional information about the content of the magazine Price and issue number is situated above the barcode in very small font Puff – Free gifts – ‘downloads’ Barcode

Annotation of Magazine Contents Page A small image of the magazine title at the top of the page Contents is situated at the top of the page, it is an a bold font and in white so it stands out against the black A continuous colour scheme of red follows the front cover’s colour choice Editor’s letter is informal, friendly and direct to the target audience so they are interested in reading it. It also shows the Magazine’s Twitter and Facebook addresses as the target audience will use these websites already The content is separated by sections and sub-headings. Easy to follow, the layout allows the reader to choose easily from which content they would like to read There is one large image on the contents, which emphasises the content. It is a good quality photograph and follows the convention that the images are displayed in columns It follows the conventions of two columns, consisting of regular, feature and exclusive content. Regular content existing in each issue e.g reviews and feature content being one off stories such as certain band interviews Photographs are anchored by the text on the contents; they link with the use of page numbers Page numbers next to the feature and regular content A subscription of some sort is on the page to entice the reader to buy into a monthly subscription of the magazine. Annotation of Magazine Double Page Spread The title of the article is: ‘CONNOR’S BEAT GOES ON’, it shows what the article is about and attracts the reader Body text is 9 pt An image of a saxophone relates to the article focusing on the old 80’s music, ‘Ska’ There is a use of creative photography Conventions are explored as the image and title bleeds across the page. The text is adjacent in columns This is the Stand-first. It is a short introductory to the article and includes a By-line First paragraph is bold, it is a summarising introduction about the article. Key information is held in this paragraph I followed the conventions by putting my text in three columns Drop Capital – is used in the first paragraph to give the reader a visual cue on where to start reading The ‘T’ is enlarged; it is the first letter of the first word, it is 3 lines deep Page number at the bottom of the page to indicate to the reader what page the article is on. It is the same number as on the contents Magazine title is indicated on the bottom of the page A ‘Ska’ black and white pattern I created to match the guitar strap really compliments the article’s layout
