1. PRELIM – WHAT WE
NEED TO IMPROVE

2. PRE-PRODUCTION
Prelim:
 The research and planning that we did before we filmed our Prelim consisted of researching the 180 degree
rule. This made us aware of filming, so we wouldn’t cross that 180 degree line.
 When we started to take pictures for our storyboard, we made this mistake a few times, however we realized
this and we just picked the correct pictures not breaking the 180 degree rule, when creating our digital storyboard.
 We learnt how to play poker. This enabled us to create a structured flowing poker game in the film.
 We chose specific props, like black sunglasses, playing cards and cups on the table to create context.
Improvement:
 To improve for our thriller we researched the props a detective would have and put careful consideration into
what we would use in our thriller. As the detective has her own office, most of the props were things that
would be an office e.g. a desk, computer, pencil pot holder and so forth.

3. PRODUCTION
Prelim:
 During filming we felt confident with the camera at times as we was using different camera angles and shot types.
However we in certain situations we never used the tripod. For e.g. when we was panning showing the main characters body
from the shoes to his head. This then made the shot shaky and it didn’t appear smooth.
 We didn’t get to film various shot types as time was running out. So extreme close ups, match cuts and cross cuts was at
a minimum.
 We had everything we needed however the black sunglasses broke during filming. We still used them but we had to
improvise on how they would stay on the main characters face.
Improvement:
 For the film we used various camera shots such as extreme close ups, match cuts, cross cuts, tracking and many more.
 The props played a big part in the thriller as they characterized and created context so the audience would
understand, what was going on and recognize class and status.

4. POST-PRODUCTION
Prelim:
 Editing went smoothly as we as we put the scenes in the correct order and was able to add
non- diegetic sound.
 We added non diegetic sound using sound track pro. We also kept some diegetic sound from
when we was filming.
 We didn’t have enough time to add titles in the conventional order.
Improvement:
 Time was taken to carefully edit our thriller as we had filmed various shots. We had to make
sure they were in the right order and the cuts were done properly so the opening flowed.

5. ANALYSIS
Prelim:
 The lighting in Prelim was basic as we didn’t get to use any
daylight or special filming lights. We was in a classroom so all we
ad was the lamp light.
 Mise en scene is important and in our Prelim we represented this
using the location and props.
