1. Rhiannon’s Research!
Wants to do a horror to be creative, more opportunities for a horror film with camera shots
and angles
Film trailers tell a story in a highly condensed fashion
First section sets the scene; second part drives the narrative further and the last contains a
massive climax usually accompanied by dramatic music, scene montages and sometimes a ‘cast
run through’ if they are notable enough.
Movie trailers now use a ‘money shot’ that catch the audience’s attention by being the biggest/
most captivating
Horror films are edited carefully and move at a fast pace which unnerves the audience and
opens them up to the dark side of life without them being harmed. They will often contain dark
music and dark locations and are usually centered around the alien, supernatural or the evil
that lives within society
Religious/ satanic horror genre have an element of realism for the audience
Supernatural films concentrate on ghostly/ supernatural happenings that are unknown
Slasher films have that element of a psychologically deranged character
Initial idea of basing it around a girl becoming involved in a cult
Target audience of 15-25 and both genders
Teaser trailer would appeal to this audience because they access the internet a lot through
mobile phone or tablet –not time-consuming
Thriller film conventions:
build tension
suspense
main character unknowingly involved in a dangerous situation
Force of the antagonist is initially stronger
Idea that there is something bigger e.g. terrorism vs. one murder
Horror film conventions:
Unsettling imagery
Dark settings
Tension-building music
Malicious antagonist
Cult/ religious/ witchcraft
Inhuman and inhumane activity
Idea of “God like” powers at a higher level
Mystery part of the story is an important factor for the trailer, which should capture the
audience’s attention, create interest and a hype about the film
Settings are all dark and dingy; imagery connotes death e.g. graveyard
Metallic and gunshot sound effects are used in the trailers which connotes the idea of violence,
death and sinning
All trailers end in disruption which keeps the audience interested and wanting to know what
happens next
Supernatural elements are used in the form of enigma codes
