advertising than on TV , with a record £1.75bn, online spend in the first six months of
the year.The UK is not the first country

about six months ago. However Denmark has a smaller domestic advertising market
compared to that of the UK
It has taken the internet less than 10 years to become the biggest advertising sector in
the UK.
Back in 1998, when the IAB first measured internet advertising, just £19.4m was spent
online. The sheer growth of the internet ad market has been incredible.The internet
now accounts for 23.5% of all advertising money spent in the UK, while TV ad spend
accounts for 21.9% of marketing budgets.

The internet has managed to surpass the TV advertising earlier than expected, due to a
fall in TV ad revenues by 17% year on year. The search engine Google has been the
main beneficiary of the online marketing Boom, taking a lions share of all search
marketing spends.
The breakdown of the facts show that Online classified advertising grew by 10.6% year
on year to £385m,
But online display advertising, such as banners fell by 5.2% year on year, to £316.5m.
Some say that the market in Advertising online has peaked, however Social Media Sites
Facebook and Myspace are preparing to make an impact, there may yet be room for
growth!
