  developed and maintained through interpersonal communication.

• Instructing – Interpersonal exchange of information regarding products,
  processes and targets.

• Coordinating – Requires excellent communication skills to ensure that all
  efforts are directed towards the achievement of a single organizational
  goal.

• Controlling – Competence to receive information and respond quickly.
  Checks results and receives feedback.

• Formal channel of communication--- Means of
  communications- formally controlled by
  managers or people in position. Ensures
  information flow in timely and accurate
  manner.
• ADVANTAGES--- Maintain authority structure
  of the organisation, easier to fix responsibility
• Better cooperation and coordinations among
  employees are achieved.

• Information is more trustworthy and can be
  easily relied on.
• Memos, circulars, instructions etc are part of
  the formal commn.
• There is minimal chance of information leak

• DISADVANTAGES – time consuming. Small
  pieces of info passes thro long formal
  channels hence time consuming.
• Does not allow social and emotional bonds to
  be created – absence employees do not feel at
  ease
• Inhibition or stand in the way of free flow of
  info between organsational levels.

• Advantages– speedy transmission
• Uniting force
• Creation of ideas
• Good personal relationship
• Disadvantages --- cannot be taken seriously
• Spreads or transmits information by word of
  mouth
• Does not carry complete information- guess work

• Chances of misinterpretation
• Lack of Accountability.
