The music video incorporates several conventions of Goodwin's music video theory. It synchronizes lyrics and visuals by showing the artist representing lyrics like "I'll be superman." It also edits to the beat of the music. The narrative depicts a troubled relationship, with the character singing about his girlfriend pushing him away by cheating on him. While not using sexualized voyeurism, it employs past memories through the artist filming his love interest. Overall, the video aims to follow R&B conventions by using a black male artist portraying a smooth but troubled character in the vein of artists like Trey Songz, Jason Derulo, and Ne-Yo.
2. …Music video (Goodwins theory)
In our music video we used a lot of aspects from
Goodwins theory.
LYRICS AND VISUALS: The artist mentioned lyrics
such as ‘I’ll be superman’
and then we directed the
artist makes actions to
represent ‘superman’
as in the lyrics
3. Music video (Goodwins theory)
MUSIC AND VISUALS: we edited the music video by
cutting to the beat. The rhythm of the song, matches
what the audience can see. This is a important
convention as all music videos are cut to the beat.
4. • We included a narrative in our music
video not only because it is conventional
to use a narrative in and R’n’B music video
usually to do with a troubled relationship.
Our narrative is our character singing
about his girlfriend ‘pushing him away’
and he eventually finds out that she is
pushing him away as she cheats on him
with his best friend.

5. • From our research we conducted that r’n’B
videos tend not to intertextualise (well mostly
male artists) don’t as they have their own stories
to do with a woman, either chasing after them or
breaking up with them. By having their own
narrative they do not need to have all R’n’b
videos exactly the same. However R’n’B artists do
tend to replicate the same narrative and use
them from other music videos – which helps
maintain the convention of the genre.

6. • Although we did not use voyeurism in the way
that looks at a woman’s body which can be
associated with sexual connotations we used
voyeurism to show past personal memories of
Shobnam flirting with the camera which is
supposed to be Kundi the male character
filming her.

7. • In terms of genre characteristics, we followed
the conventions of R’n’B videos by using a
black male artist. We portrayed our character
as a ‘smooth’ but troubled guy in a
relationship. R’n’B stars such as Trey
Songz, Jason Derulo and Ne-yo.

8. More specifically to the genre of R’n’B
We conformed to the generic conventions of showing a
troubled relationship with a woman. And notions of
looking - the artist standing and looking
important/superior. We tried to replicate aspects of our
music video from artists Trey Songz, Jason Derulo, and
Ne-Yo. Here are some shots of our music video and the
music videos we conducted our research from and took
inspiration from;
