NAME OF TEACHER: VEENA.V.S DATE :
SUBJECT : PHYSICS STRENGTH:
UNIT : WORK ENERGY POWER
TOPIC : POTENTIAL ENERGY AND KINETIC ENERGY
CURRICULAR OBJECTIVES
To develop clear understanding of the difference between potential energy and kinetic energy ; could describe accurately what causes variation in the amount of potential energy of an object has ; and could accurately apply their knowledge of potential energy and kinetic energy to real world situation
CONTENT ANALYSIS
TERMS
POTENTIAL ENERGY
KINETIC ENERGY
FACTS AND CONCEPTS
The energy of an object at rest is called potential energy
The energy of an object at motion is called kinetic energy
Example of kinetic energy are running girl , oscillating pendulum rolling cylinder, flying bird
Sitting boy , standing man ,fixed rocks, statue are the examples of potential energy
Kinetic energy is directly proportional to square velocity and mass .
Potential energy is directly proportional to mass and height
EQUATIONS
Kinetic Energy=1/2 mV2
Potential energy =mgh
m=mass
V =velocity
g=acceleration due to gravity
h=height
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
o Remember the concept of potential energy and kinetic energy
o Understand the knowledge about kinetic energy and potential energy
o Apply knowledge about in real world situations
o Analyse what causes variation in amount of potential energy on an object has

 The energy of an object at rest is called potential energy
 The energy of an object at motion is called kinetic energy
Activity2
Here is a scientific story you should complete by including following hints..
Once upon a time there was a hare and tortoise. They were high school students in kerala. They used to discuss about physics. The hair always boasted that he had more kinetic energy than tortoisese. They decided to have a race. They chose a starting point and finishing point. They measured distance, that was 1km correctly. Before the race they measured their mass also. It is confirmed that both of them have 5kg
.
Note: complete story using your imagination including maximum science words,calculations,concept and suggection to increase kinetic energy
Points to be consolidated
o Kinetic energy is directly proportional to square velocity and mass
Velocity of tortoise=0.05m/s
Velocity of hare=2m/s
Velocity of tortoise=0.05m/s
Velocity of hare=0m/s
o KE=1/2 MV2
o Kinetic energy1
tortoise=5*(.05)2
hare=5*22
o Kinetic energy2
tortoise=5*(.05)2
hare=5*02
Activity3
Next day they decided to check about potential energy. Tortoise red all available text book and engaged in body maintains. As a result of his hard work his weight become 8kg.But hair practices to control sleep. Thus Hare and tortoise went up a hill and hair said that “I am at the highest peak, so I have more potential energy ”what is your opinion about hair’s statement ?is it correct ?justify your answer?
5m 6m 7m
Points to be consolidated
o Potential energy is directly propotional to mass and height
o Potential energy =mgh
o Potential energy of tortoise=8*9.8*5=40*9.8
o Potential energy of hair=5*9.8*7 =35*9.8
o Tortoise has more potential energy
