He does not want to say goodbye to her when he leaves but sees her face in the plane window as he flies away. This study examined voice disorders in 33 children with classic galactosemia. The researchers found that 21% of the children were diagnosed with childhood apraxia of speech, 3% with ataxic dysarthria, and 3% with mixed CAS-dysarthria. Voice disorders due to laryngeal insufficiency were common in children with dysarthria and also occurred with CAS. Most (58%) children with galactosemia had decreased respiratory-phonatory support and 33% had disturbed vocal quality indicative of cerebellar dysfunction. Three children had vocal tremors, including two with CAS and one without an MSD diagnosis. The study assessed phonation and vocal quality to determine the prevalence of voice disorders in this population
