Working title: hidden feelings
Director: Paul Remm
Camera: bob Winsel
Sound: Stevie Longhouse
Editor: Jamal Botswa
My film will show this in action by
exploring the life of a man who is
dealing with a situation that is causing
his life misery. I will exemplify how awful
it can be when a man gets abused and
portray that abuse doesn’t have to be
physical abuse, it can be mental abuse a
well.
My films subject is a personal
matter, abuse towards men. I will
explore this through reality role
play, it will show the lives of a man
and women living together but the
situation that their relationship is in
is truly devastating to watch. In
cases of abuse towards men,
women will be extremely
hypocritical with the situation, they
will feel that they can do as they
desire however the man cant.
Guilt tripping is a key factor of abuse towards
men, no matter how right the man is or if he is
not doing anything wrong, the women will guilt
trip the man into thinking he is doing
something terribly wrong. The audience will
need to take into consideration that the man
and women's relationship was not always bad,
their was times when they laughed with each
other, went out as a couple and was deeply
happily with being together.
First character: Chris, he is the main character of this short film.
He is the boyfriend of the relationship. Chris is 26 and currently
lives in a small house with his girlfriend. He is the main target
of physical and mental abuse.
The characters role is to portray that men do get abused, the
stereotype of the man causing the woman is not always the
case. this character is interesting due to how much he changes
throughout his life, the change is the key thing that the
audience will notice. The film will give his point of view of the
situation and will express how devastating a relationship can
turn into.
Second character: Mila, she is Chris’s
girlfriend. She is 25 and lives with
Chris in is small house.
Mila is the one who brings the
relationship to new levels of intense,
she believes that she should
dominate Chris’s actions and
thoughts due to her being his partner.
She will portray that women can also
be the one to abuse, throughout this
short film it will be breaking the
stereotype of men abusing the
women. This character will try to hurt
her partner where it hurts the most,
she will damage his emotions to
make him feel weak and worthless if
she is not in the picture.
• In my short film, the woman wants power and the ability to get what
she wants. The man simply wants to love her however he is damaged
so badly that the spark that was there fades away.
The man stands up against abuse
in his mind, however does not
show or tell the women how he
feels, he doesn’t want to live the
way he his living but he is
powerless.
My film puts the issue “abuse
towards men” into principle by
showing the male characters view
of the situation, and his view will
be much worse than the women
character.
There will be heavy confrontation
at the end when the man speaks
his mind, the women doesn’t listen
however the man is satisfied that
he finally spoke up for himself.
AUDIENCE BIASES?
• The biases in my film are
that it will take side
towards the man. The film
will mainly show the view
of the man which will
heavily influence the
audience to take side for
the man due his point of
view expressing the true
side of the relationship.
The fact is the women is how she is
because she thinks its acceptable to
control your partner within the
relationship and dominate his
actions. The audience will see this
through the pain and confusion in
the mans face to why the women is
being like this towards him.
ON CAMERA INTERVIEWS
• The only interview that will take place will be the man.
• The interview will be him giving his opinions, the main theme of the
interview will be to express sadness. this will engage the audience
and connect with the film more.
• There will be questions directed at the man which will cover how he
feels about the relationship. The interview will take place at the end
of the scene and after the relationship is over so he can look back at
how dreadful he felt back then.
STRUCTURE
• The time in the film will be gradual. It will mostly be linear however at the start of the film
there will be the flashback of the two partners enjoying the company of each other. After
the flashback it will flow through the day towards the night and it will be in chronological
order of the day, followed by the interview towards the last minute of the short film. The
story will begin to develop roughly half way through the short film, hopefully the audience
will be engaged by this point enough to realise the change. When you see how frustrated
and damaged the man gets from the women actions, you begin to feel like the situation has
blew out of proportion and start to feel sorry for the man.
The climax of the short film will be when the two partners argue; this will create
extreme tension between the two characters and will lead on to loneliness. The
audience will feel like the relationship isn’t meant to be as intense as the two
characters relationship. So there will be a sudden climax and then will fade with
silence to express unhappy emotions. All scene will link together in the short film, it
will be a build-up of tension throughout the film and then fades into the mans
damaged emotions. It’s a climax to the point where the man cannot take it anymore.
Form and style
The way in which I will shoot my film will be key to expressing the emotions further. How will I express this one might ask, I will use a variety of techniques
such as the lighting. At the start of my short film will have bright lighting to portray happiness however as the scene changes the audience will notice the
contrast when the lighting turns dull. The dull lighting will express the dark emotion that the man experiences. The camera views are important in showing
deep emotions due to the way in which the camera captures the scene, the camera will be higher from the women's point of viewdue to her making the
man feel that he is under her level. Also the camera angle will fade above the man when he experiences depression to show emptiness, the camera angle will
fade away making the man look small in the shot. The position of characters within the scenes will be critical due to when the women is present they will
notice the change within the man, the man will try to get closer but actually gets pushed away so the camera angles will express that by the women leaving
the man empty within the scene.
Resolution
My film will end by the audience feeling how the man feels. The aim is to make the audience feel moved by
scenes and notice that abuse towards men isn’t just a fiction its actually a reality for some males. The story
comes from happiness to depression, also this happens to portray that in a relationship it starts happy but over
time is when is starts to potentially go downhill. The end scene will be the camera angle fading into the distant
with the male growing smaller and smaller within the shot to express his loneliness and depressed emotion.
This will mean that males actually are heavily affected by a women's actions and it shouldn’t be seen as a joke.
Budget
I will be paying for the cast and crew for my short film such as:
• Camera crew
• Actors
• Props and lighting
• Setting
• Small advertisement that aims to expand on its own
• Distribution
• Editing crew
Logistics
The practicality would be hard due to finding a house to create the scenes with but its nothing that cant be sorted
out. Also finding the actors that are appropriate for the role and will express the character to how I envision will
be hard but in time the right person will hopefully come through.
