Inferring
What does it mean to infer? Inferring is using the clues in a text to come to a conclusion or understanding about something that isn’t specifically stated.    I can infer who committed the crime after I have examined all the clues.

Cause and Effect inference What caused this to happen? How do you know? Literary inference What do you know from the simile, metaphor, irony, etc?  What allusion did you make? How do you know? Author’s Motive inference What do you know about the reason(s) the author wrote this text? How does the author feel about the topic? How do you know? Cultural Inference What do you know about the culture, customs, and so on, in this text? How do you know? Vocabulary Inference What does this word mean? How do you know?
