3. Homopolymer or Copolymer?
Acetal resins are produced by the polymerization of
purified formaldehyde [CH2O]. However, different
manufacturing processes are used to produce the
homopolymer and copolymer versions of POM. In alkaline
environments, copolymers are more stable than the
homopolymers. On the other hand, homopolymers
provide better mechanical properties than copolymers.
4. Polyacetal resins are supplied in a granulated form and can be
molded into a desired shape by applying heat and pressure. It
can be processed by all methods suitable for thermoplastics,
such as injection molding, extrusion, compression molding,
rotational casting or blow molding. Injection
molding and extrusion are the most commonly used methods
for POM processing.
7. China, United States of America, Germany,
Japan and Korea Republic are the main
polyacetal porducers with a production
capacity of 630, 181, 165, 164, 130
thousands of metric ton, respectively
8.
9. The global Polyacetal market is
forecast to grow at a rate of 7.6% in
terms of value, from 2019 to reach USD
5.88 Billion by 2027, according to a new
report by Reports and Data
10. The electrical, automotive, and consumer
appliance industries are the major end users
of POM; together, they account for nearly
three-fourths of the global consumption
11. China has become the largest producer and consumer of polyacetal
resins, as the production of electrical/electronics goods has
transitioned away from other countries in Asia (Japan, South Korea,
and Taiwan). In 2018, Chinese consumption of POM accounts for
nearly half of the global total. More than one-third of this consumption
is for electrical/electronic parts in wear-sensitive applications, such as
gears, push buttons, and switches in telephones, computer printers,
and precision instruments, and demand in this market will continue to
drive overall consumption in China
