Certain insurance provides protection from identified perils. But are you
aware not all risks can be covered by your insurance? Policies have numerous
segregations or particular events and conditions that they will not cover.
Identifying and understanding what the exclusions in your policy are important for being a smart
shopper. Unfortunately, there are numbers of individuals who have enrolled in particular property
insurance only to find out that they will not receive anything because of the conditions that they are not
aware when they bought the policy.
Each property plan has exclusions. They vary depending on what type of coverage you have and what
property is covered in the policy. However, there are general segregations that can be found in all
property insurance. They include:
1. Those that is controllable. Insurance won’t pay for instances where you would intentionally or
you have the option to care for your property. For example scratches and breakages are
controllable by the insured party. Today, there is Contents Insurance where you can cover all
your valuable assets from jewelries, laptop to modernized LCD TV.
2. Losses not caused by accident. Insurance company won’t pay for things that are expected to
happen such as rusting, shut down or tear and wear of a particular possession.
3. Tremendously dangerous conditions. There are some events that the company won’t pay for
large sum of coverage including flood, earthquakes or other natural calamities. However if you
want it to be included there is additional premium that you must pay. Flood insurance is one
way of ensuring that your property is protected during the calamity.
4. Coverage where they already exist. If an asset has its own insurance plan, then it will not be
included in the coverage. Car is an example of this exclusion.
5. Major catastrophe losses. Cases such as nuclear or civil war won’t be covered as these instances
can make the company broke.
Important Considerations:
When enrolling in any policy such as House insurance, it is significant to understand and know what
perils are covered and segregated. Knowing them could help you get rider coverage or the specific
