This one day presentation will provide evidenced based strategies for treating and preventing defiant student behaviors.. This training will focus on strategies for children who are ODD, Socially Maladjusted, Conduct Disordered, Emotionally Impaired, and Reactive Attachment Disorder. Each participant will receive a Defiance Tool box kit and develop a plan for a defiant student.

BREAKING DOWN THE WALLS: PART II Working with Oppositional & Defiant Students: Highlighting Prevention & Therapeutic Situational Management Strategies Presented by Steven Vitto, M.A. MAISD Behavior Specialist, Certified Crisis Intervention Instructor & Certified Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Instructor With special guest, Nancy Hammond Certified Beyond Consequences Trainer & adoptive parent Administrators, School Counselors , K-12 Educators and Parents This day long presentation will focus on evidenced based strategies for working with students who present oppositional and defiant behavior. While considering the needs of students with social maladjustment (Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant and Conduct Disorder) and students with disabilities that manifest in anger management challenges and defiance, strategies will be presented for preventing and diffusing outbursts and developing long term coping strategies and replacement skills. Each participant will receive a handout and a CD containing a toolbox of strategies for oppositional and defiant students. Each participant will have an opportunity to perform a competing pathways planning exercise on a defiant student. Thursday, March 19, 2009 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. (Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.) MAISD Conference Center 630 Harvey Street Muskegon, Michigan Cost $35.00 (Please call for special parent price) Lunch will be provided SB-CEU credit available.
