How to write great salon sales letters
In my last Salon Management Strategies article, I talked about how to find and attract
your perfect clients. Those clients that are most like your best clients now. The clients
that spend the most, refer the most new clients, etc. There we discovered how important
it was to get the best list. Now, I want to talk to you about how to get those prospects to
respond to your mailings and actually visit your salon.
Writing a successful sales letter is an art. People who write sales letters for a living are
referred to as copywriters. Copywriters over the years have generally followed the same
formula to get people to respond. Why? Because it works. In the next few articles, we
are going to talk about what makes a great sales letter. This is extremely important to
your success because one great sales letter could pull many new clients for decades. We
are talking about thousands and thousands of dollars.
The first component of a great sales letter is the headline. Now, most people don’t think
about the headline when they think about a sales letter, however, think of a headline as
the ad for the ad. A great headline will stop a person in their tracks and compel that
person to keep reading. This is the entire purpose of the headline.
Now, what could be some good headlines….here are some examples…
Isn’t it Time For a REAL Change in your Hair Style?
Are you Depressed about your Hair Color?
Embarrassed by your Hair? We can Help…..
Headlines are important in all businesses...even mine. Heck, a great headline for a sales
letter for our HairMax salon software might be as simple as
Salon software free
I mean, why make it any more complicated than that?
Truth be told, if salon appointment book software is used right...the cost would be
essentially free.
Don’t even think about writing a Sales Letter without a headline. It is the most
important component. So take your time and think about what makes a good headline.
Here are some more tips…
A headline should pull at a person’s emotions. Virtually all of the decisions we make in
life are because of emotional reasons. Not logical ones. Therefore, your headline should
have an emotional impact. Words like “depressed”, “embarrassed”, “eliminate”,
“secrets”, “revealing” are what are called power words (there are about 40 power words,
by the way). They tug at a person’s emotions. You should try and place a few of these
words in your headline.
So remember, the headline is the ad for the ad. A great headline can dramatically change
the response rate of a letter all by itself.
