8. Their Complexity vs. Our Simplicity
• Others are trying to build
the hub to control
multiple devices from
single app.
• The hub is another
hardware device to buy,
setup, update and
manage.
• Controlling connected
devices to these hubs
guarantees uncertainty.
• Our platform delivers the
hub from a connected
smartphone or tablet and
the mobile app.
• With the smartphone as
the hub, you’ve got a

Baked into the DNA of our company – People Power – is a passion to connect people to the things that are important to them through their mobile devices. People Power’s vision and commitment transitions perfectly from my previous company – Bitfone, where I was the CEO – which was purchased a half-dozen years ago by HP. The technology developed at Bitfone was the leading global mobile phone software update solution, and has been deployed to more than three-hundred million devices worldwide. With modesty, that’s a great start. But we’re convinced there’s another huge audience ready for our next effort – to connect people to the important things in their lives.
Apple announced a move into the Internet of Things last week. This is fantastic news for us, because we are one of the few companies that is uniquely and strategically positioned to add tremendous value to their strategy with Presence, while at the same time accelerating our own engagement programs. I’d love to tell you more about this when I meet with some of you later.
It’s not enough to create a ‘nice-to-have’ Internet of Things to just optimize a part of your life. We are focused on the ‘need-to-have’.
As you probably know, when people feel a negative emotion, they seek out a solution to make them feel better. Presence has the only prescription medicine that users can turn to, when they are worried about the people and pets in their home or business, and the home or business infrastructure itself.
We came up with a solution that is unlike anything else on the market today, called Presence.
Presence is only freemium model for smart homes. It’s being used all over the world today.
iPhones alone are being upgraded at a rate of 500k devices every day, and when asked what they’re going to do with their old phone when upgrading to a new one, half the population has no idea.
Presence reimagines old smartphones and spare tablets into free WiFi and cellular video cameras, which would normally be worth hundreds of dollars.
For us, the free Presence app allows us to receive critical feedback from real people, and experiment with a new channel to market and potentially a new direction to grow this company.
It’s also a way to deliver our engagement programs to real people.

We are receiving real traction with service providers. Those service providers include utilities, buildings, military communities, and energy service providers who need a way to engaged their customers while achieving their goals and mandates.
We provide the Command Center for engagement managers to drive these engagement programs, which enables them to group members of their communities to supporting common causes like non-profit organizations. You incentivize the participants with points that influence the flow of money to those non-profits. And the service provider becomes the platform for community interaction to meet common goals.
There’s this cigarette called social media, which can spin positive or negative. With our Engagement Manager combined with the winning lifestyle app Presence, service providers are finally able to make it spin positive. The engagement program we’ve designed is being rolled out to nearly 2000 homes in North America, and our technology is being deployed inside 2 buildings in China.
We’re going to grow this and sign 10,000 homes this year. Depending on the program, it comes out to $500 per home, plus an ongoing $100 per home per year, and you can do the math. This adds up very quickly. In London, Ontario where we are deploying, there are 4M homes up for grabs, winner take all, and we’re working with Tata Consultancy Group to do just that.
We’re rolling this out from coast-to-coast.
One of those huge industry trends was designed by us. We’ve created the Green Button standard. If you haven’t heard of it, I don’t know what planet you’re on, but go google it.
Green Button connects meters to people, without added hardware. It’s software. Green Button is at the heart of smart grid and smart buildings. It’s disruptive. This will enable us to scale with service providers quickly beyond our 10,000 home goal this year. We designed this play. Our chief scientist is actually serving now as a White House Innovations Fellow to see the roll out of Green Button across America.
