2. • Alonso, the King of Naples believes that the ship has wrecked and that all but he and
the five men he is with have died, including his son – Ferdinand. He longs for his son
and is currently going through grief.
• Sebastian, Alonso’s brother, believes that the ship has wrecked and that all but he and
the five men he is with have died. He wants to, along with Antonio, kill his brother,
Alonso and Alonso’s counsellor, Gonzalo.
• Gonzalo, Alonso’s honest old counsellor, believes that the ship has wrecked and that all
but he and the five men he is with have died. He just wants to console his dear Alonso.
• Antonio, Prospero’s brother and the current Duke of Milan, believes that the ship has
wrecked and that all but he and the five men he is with have died. He wants to, along
with Sebastian, kill Alonso and Alonso’s counsellor, Gonzalo.
• Adrian, the King’s lord, believes that the ship has wrecked and that all but he and the
five men he is with have died. I am not sure what he wants at this point, but my guess is
to serve his King.
• Francisco, the King’s lord, believes that the ship has wrecked and believes he saw
Alonso’s son, Ferdinand safely make it to shore. I am not sure what he wants at this
point, but my guess is to serve his King.

3. • Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, knows that there was no harm done to
anyone on the ship and that the others are on the island. He wants revenge on
his brother, Antonio.
• Miranda, Prospero’s daughter, knows that her father caused the horrible weather
that caused the shipwreck and that the ship had their enemies aboard. She wants
to be with Ferdinand.
• Ferdinand, Alonso’s son, believes that the ship has wrecked and that all but he
has died, including his father, the King of Naples – Alonso. He also believes he is
the new King of Naples. He wants to be with Miranda.

4. • Caliban, a slave of Prospero’s, believes that Stephano must be a god because of
the wine. All that Caliban wants is to celebrates his “freedom” from Prospero and
serve his new master, Stephano.
• Trinculo, a jester, believes the ship has wrecked and is now happy to know that
Stephano is alive as well. He wants to take Caliban back to Europe and make his
fortune by using him as a freak show.
• Stephano, a drunken butler, believes the ship has wrecked and is just happy to
have made it out with wine. I think all that Stephano desires is more wine.

5. Ariel, an airy spirit, knows that Prospero wants revenge on the people on the ship,
that no harm came to anyone aboard to the ship, where each person is on the
island, and that Sebastian and Antonio plotted to kill Alonso and Gonzalo but
failed. Ariel only desires to be released from Prospero.
I made Ariel a cloud because it is an airy spirit and because at the end of Act II,
Scene I Ariel is on the way to tell Prospero about Sebastian and Antonio’s plot and
we do not hear from Ariel before the end of Act II, Scene II.
