3. 1. What is Sin?
 Sin is a word not often talked about or taken
seriously and many don’t understand what sin is.
 It’s not mentioned enough in the church and not
many pastors have preached against sin.
 Most of the people thought of sins as
committing crimes like murder, robbery and
involve in adultery or witchcraft. For Christians it
is much more.

4. Sin is described in the Bible as the
“transgression of the Law of God” (1 John 3:4)
Sin is lawlessness.
Definition of sin
Everyone who sins breaks the law;
in fact, sin is lawlessness.

5. Definition of sin
You sin, if you know the good you ought to do
and don’t do it – sin of omission
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do
and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

 Sin is coming short of the glory of God.
The primary purpose of our life is to glorify God, so
anything unlike Christ in our personality is sin.

9.  Sin is the deadliest force (described by John
Ortberg) because it takes us out of the flow of the
Spirit, and this threatens our ability to flourish in
our spiritual life and walk with the Lord.
 We have a staggering capacity for self-deception
and life justification.

10.  The evil one will use temptation which start with
our passions and sinful desires to pull us off
course in our desire to live right before God.
 We need to recognize the pattern of sins most
tempting to us and in avoiding them (those
besetting sins) will lead us to live a victorious
Christian life.

12. Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,
who put darkness for light and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

 Without the Holy Spirit showing us, we can’t see our
flowed character and insensitivity to sin. Left to
ourselves, we will rationalize, excuse or defend
ourselves. We will “call evil good and good evil” (Isaiah
5:20)

13.  But thanks be to God, His Spirit at work in
us, revealing to us our blind spots.
 Our task is simply to listen and respond.

14.  Just like the psalmist, if we ask God to do a fearless
searching inventory of our heart (Psalm 139: 23-24)

23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
He will give enough grace, strength and truth to
overcome our distorted vision of ourselves.

15.  The Apostle Paul in Ephesian 4 urges Christians to
“put off” anger, slander, rage, greed, sexual impurity,
falsehood and “put on” those characteristics that flow
from life in the Spirit.
