a. Type I – Criminal Intent c. Type III – Employee Related
b. Type II – Client d. Type IV – Personal Relationships

3. Criminal Intent
 Involves a Person With No Relationship to the Workplace Who
Commits a Violent Act, Such As;
Type I
a. Theft – Money, Cars, Drugs, Personal Belongings
b. Hostage Taking
c. Kidnapping

4. Client
 Involves a Person That Acts Upon The Following;
Type II
a. The Violent Act is a „Willful Intent‟ to Cause Harm
b. Majority of Workplace Violence Events are Client-Related

5. Employee-Related
 Involves a Person That Acts Upon The Following;
Type III
a. “Repeated and Persistent Negative Acts Towards One or More
Individual(s), Which Involve a Perceived Power Imbalance and
Create a Toxic or Unhealthy Work Environment” (Salin, 2003)

6. Personal-Relationships
 Involves a Person That Acts Upon The Following;
Type IV
a. Relationship Violence That Occurs at the Workplace; I.E, a
Loved One/Family Member That Commits a Violent Act Against a
Worker (Domestic Violence). (NIOSH, 2006)
