Are your adequately educated students equipped well with
Soft Skills also?
Aspirants want to join companies like Wipro, IBM, HCL, TCS etc. but
national employability report says that only 17.45% of technical graduates
in India are ready to be employed. What about the rest 82.55%, they also
acquired education in same environment, same system, and same culture.
A survey of 303 employers across the country by the Federation of Indian
Chambers of Commerce and Industry found a majority of graduates
lacked adequate "soft skills" to be employed in the industry.
May be India is becoming the largest producer of engineering graduates
across the world but a renowned authority like NASSCOM states that only
25% of pass-outs were found worthy of employment without in-house
training.
Though of late, the human resource development ministry appears to
have woken up to the fact that 'skill development' is an area that needs
urgent attention in our education system. But experts say the focus of the
programme is still skewed - it still focuses only on vocational education,
missing out 'soft skills' training.
Based on some informal discussions with students and professionals lack
of opportunities is not a problem, lack of information about work culture is
the root cause. This is the reason aspirants rely heavily on feedback from
seniors and friends.
Communication, Innovation, Team work & Presentation are some Skills
which differentiate these two set of aspirants. Values like commitment &
passion distinguish the less fortunate ones.
