States there were many changes and
events that take place.
• Literature became affected by the
diversity of cultures that arrived to the
country.
• The technological advances helped and
changed the way people live and do
things.
• People took more conscious about the
environment and nature.

• 1972: Last U.S combat troops leave Vietnam
• 1973: Oil crisis
• 1975: The Bicentennial of U.S
• 1980: Ronald Reagan was elected president
• 1982: Alice Walker publishes The Color Purple

• 1991: The Soviet Union is dissolved
• 1992: Bill Clinton is elected president

• During this time in America there was a
raise of immigration being the most
common Chinese and Latin American
people.
• This helped to the contemporary
literature to have a more range of
authors. More diversity in Literature.
• There were authors of every race,
age, religion, nationality, culture,
political affiliation, economic
class, etc.
• Civil rights were more accepted.

• Technology was another very
important aspect during this
time.
• The use of technology had a great
impact in everyone’s life.
• Easy communication and more
accessibility to information.
