Hi, I’m Shannon McCann. I’m a Music Business student at Full Sail University and will be graduating in May of 2015. This is a little window into my life and who I am.
My parents always raised me to be the most creative person I could possibly be. I was constantly putting on shows, making up songs and dances, playing with paint and crayons, and pretending to be princesses and pirates from made up lands far away. I engaged the creative part of my brain starting at a young age, and I believe it has made me into the person I am today.
More than anything, I love to create music. I am primarily a singer, but I can play a little of the guitar and piano as well, and am a songwriter too. I started singing at the age of five, and haven’t stopped since. There is nothing like the feeling of creating music for others-or even for myself. Having musical talents is something unique, and not something that everyone can say they have; so I treasure it as best I can. This is my favorite creative outlet. I am happiest when I am making music myself, or exploring the music of others.
I absolutely love to create laughs. Making people laughs is somewhat of a hobby of mine. Comedy is an art, and I have always been “the funny one” in my family and group of friends. I am always trying to perfect new impersonations and am quick-witted and sarcastic. Making my friends laugh brings me so much joy, because I believe that laughter is the best medicine and can make people instantly feel good.
One of my biggest passions is fitness. I have always had a passion for fitness since my early teenage years, and started working in the fitness industry in 2012. I love to learn more about what makes effective workouts, and love to help others reach their goals as well as work to sculpt my body in new ways. It’s a fun and challenging way to be creative.
There are many things that I value in my life, but a few that take the top spots in my heart. These few things I hold very close to me and pay special attention to in my daily life.
Health is one of these things that I value so much. I think it is so important to feed our bodies healthy food and exercise regularly. Working in the fitness industry, I have seen how scary obesity can really be, and I know what to do to stay away from it. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is something that I was raised on by my family and something that I will continue to maintain for the rest of my life.
My creativity is vital to my existence. Whether it is creating music, or just being able to be myself freely, I value the creative side of myself that is so unique to me.
Family and friends are what I hold closest to me. I am constantly wanting to stay in contact with my loved ones and wanting to spend time with them. The time I have with the ones I love is so valuable and precious to me, and they have shaped me into the person that I am today. I am a firm believer that the people in my life have been put there for a reason.
I value my happiness as well. The people around me, the way I spend my time, my creativity- these are all things that contribute to my happiness.
I highly value love. I am constantly emitting love by showing it to the people around me and letting people into my life who are there to love and support me. I personally am constantly surrounded by love by my friends and family and my boyfriend.
I think it’s very important to have things that we believe strongly in, because it gives us something to wake up in the morning and have a passion for. There are a couple things that I definitely have a strong belief for, and drive me everyday.
I believe in always doing good for others. When we seek to give more than we receive, we end up getting the most in return because we helped others in need and did a good deed. I love to help others in whatever I do, and believe that we should all always try to look out for each other.
I also believe in working a career I’m passionate about. I refuse to spend a day putting energy towards something I feel mediocre about. There’s a saying that says “do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” I really believe in this quote, which is why I’m in school for Music Business. I’m pursuing a degree in a field that I’m truly passionate about and can’t wait to get a job doing everyday.
I am a firm believer that everyone- no matter what race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, etc. should live equally. We are all the same, we are all human, and we should all live in harmony. It makes my heart hurt to see people fighting over race or religion, because I believe that we would all be so much better off if we lived peacefully. I hope I live to see the day when we can live more equally than we do now, and I’ll take whatever steps I need to to be sure we get there.
There are many things that make up who I am, but these traits sum of some of the best parts of me.
I am a people person. I love connecting with people and spending time with the people I love, as well as meeting new people. I am a very empathetic person, so I love hearing people’s stories and listening, and offering comfort and advice. I try to be the best friend I can possibly be at all times, and am always there to lean on.
I am a storyteller. I love hearing new stories, but I also love telling stories to the people around me. When I hear new stories or experience something interesting, I can’t wait to tell my loved ones or my peers, and hopefully interest them or brighten their day.
I am also an organizer. I am extremely organized in my home and in the spaces occupy. I love to organize my desk and room, and always color code everything. It
Since I was a kid, I have always been a skilled writer. I have won competitions, written books full of songs, and had many ideas for novels and such. I think if I really wanted to I could pursue writing full time, but I’ve never really tried to pursue it seriously. Writing is a passion of mine because it’s like a form of therapy. Getting all of my thoughts and feelings out on paper is such a release.
I will always be an artist above all. I am always thinking of hooks for songs, and singing- even if it’s in my car. My goal is not to get a recording contract and be famous. In fact, I’d be happy if I spent my life working in the business and just played at a local coffee shop once a week. I’m just happy as long as I’m making music- I don’t need fame or recognition.
I have only lived 20 years, but I feel that there is so much more I yearn to see in the rest of the years I have left to live. It’s exciting and terrifying at the same time, but I can’t wait for the journey.
I have a love for travel. Even if it’s just an hour away, I love to see new places. I can’t wait to see more of the world, and learn about more cultures. I find that the more I travel and see more ways of life, the more humbled I am and the more I learn about myself. I can’t wait for the self exploration aspect of traveling, and for the growth I will have as I see more of the world.
I have a passion for live music. In fact, most of my money goes to seeing live shows. I can’t wait for the shows I will see throughout the rest of my life. Every time I go, I learn more about music, performance, and myself as a performer.
Finally, I can’t wait to gain more life experience. This life has been amazing so far, and I have learned so much, but I can’t wait for what’s in store. I know there’s so much more for me to see and to learn, and I have all the right people and resources around me to have the most incredible life I could imagine.
