Clara Wieck was a famous 19th century German pianist and composer. She was born in 1819 in Leipzig, Germany and taught by her father from a young age. Clara studied music theory and various instruments, and went on to have a successful career as a pianist, composer, and teacher, performing for royalty and marrying fellow pianist Robert Schumann, with whom she had 8 children. She died in 1896 at the age of 76 from a stroke.
