Codes and conventions of a music magazine

1. Codes:
The colour red is used for
the background to give a
different effect to the music
magazine,
The text writing,

conveys the most important
text for the reader to see,
by having there first eye
contact with the centre of
the magazine. The colour
red connotes ‘ teenage
angst’ additionally it may
also symbolises anger. This
means, there is four male at
the front cover which the
background colour is red,
this may suggest male
anger, frustration.
I think that this music
magazine is a busy magazine,
this is highlighted by all the
features used in the cover of
the magazine, I think this is
effective by the reader having
different things to reader
other than reading only one
topic, also this may also
suggest the number of
information is provided within
one music magazine, which is
an advantage to the reader.
Conventions:
The cover of this music
magazine suggests the kind
of music they do is rock
music, I think this because “
KERRANG” suggests a rock
music genre. This means the
maths head (title) suggest
that the magazine will be
based around rock music
genre, we know from the
maths head.
By the image being in in the
centre of the magazine,
effectively engages the
reader by looking there
straight. This will be an
advantage by not allowing
the reader to look at any
other sides of the
magazines.
The facial expression of the
four boys suggests there
excitement towards music.

2. Codes:
The colour blue is for
the same reason in
this music magazine as
well, the black text
colour is used to make
it straight forward for
the reader. The colour
blue also suggests the
male dominance,
additionally it suggests
masculinity for the
male readers.
I think that this music
magazine it’s got to do
with Rihanna’s personal
life . The contrast
colours blue and black
supports my point.
“ What’s love got to do
with it” This is
conventional to keep
the audience to read
through the magazine.

also suggests the
type of music the
artist sings, the
colour black for me
suggests R&B music.
The masthead, main image
has a straight eye contact, to
keep the reader engaged.
The image used is also a
black and white picture that
conveys her importance
within the magazine front
cover and suggests the artist
being elegant. The black and
white colour scheme also
suggests that it may be R&B
or Rock music genre.
The artist is also wearing
jewellery that suggests
Rihanna’s difference and
how she knows her little
features are important.

The clothing of the
artist represents the
kind of music he is
famous for, Justin
Bieber clothing
suggests he is a pop
singer.
The clothing will
indicate what kind of
music the artist sings
and what the music
magazine will be based
on.
The facial
expression of
the artist
suggests that
he is confident
and the music
magazine is
going to be
based on his
music industry.
Codes:
The colour blue at

used effectively to

easier for the reader
to read, the writing is
white, yellow and red
, that is obviously
easy for the reader.
In my opinion the colour
blue represents the
innocence of the artist and
that the music magazine is
about his successful music
carer,
“ Billboard”. The colour
blue connotes the male
dominance within the music
front cover, this also implies
the male mascunilty of the
male music artist at the
front of the magazine.
