HOSPITALITY<br />Mandarin Oriental HotelWashington, DC<br />At an estimated cost of $144 million, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Washington, become the first 5-Star facility in the Portals district. Catering to the elite business traveler, this Beaux Arts style, 400-room hotel offers impressive views of the Potomac tidal basin, the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument. Steeped in luxury, it includes a highly acclaimed 14,000 square-foot spa along with a 24,000 square-foot conference facility and two award-winning restaurants. In concert with the hotel group’s tradition, the building incorporates distinctively oriental architecture and design elements. HOSPITALITY<br />Mandarin Oriental HotelNew York, NY<br />The Mandarin Oriental Hotel New York is an exclusive development on the 35th to 54th floors of the Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle. Regarded among the best in Manhattan, the 250-room luxury hotel provides stunning views of Central Park, the Hudson River and the city skyline. Inspired by the diverse cultures of this sophisticated, cosmopolitan city, the interiors of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Miami incorporate tall ceilings and a variety of textures- dark woods, marble, bamboo, rice paper and glass. HOSPITALITY<br />THEhotel at Mandalay bay Las Vegas, NV<br />THEhotel is a 43-story tower complementing Mandalay Bay’s 60 acre, tropically themed casino and resort property on the Las Vegas Strip.<br />Appointed with polished stone, elegant furnishings and understated luxury, THEhotel encompasses 1,117 one and two-bedroom suites, as well as meeting facilities and upscale restaurants and lounges. CORPORATE<br />Sovereign Tower Atlanta, ga<br />An architectural marvel that soars 635 feet into the skyline, Sovereign is a 50-story high-rise tower on Peachtree Road in the Buckhead district of Atlanta. With 600,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and office space, this mixed-use urban designed project was designed by Atlanta-based Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart and Stewart and has won numerous accolades including a 2009 ULI Development Excellence Project of the Year award.<br />CD+M provided architectural lighting design of the site, residential and office lobbies, 28th floor residential club and pool deck and façade. CORPORATE<br />Volkswagen Glaserne Manufactur dresden, Germany<br />The $190 million Glaserne Manufactur, or ‘Glass Factory,’ in Dresden, Germany, is a visual celebration of modern manufacturing. In the words of the architect, Gunter Henn, this is a “master craftsman’s atelier” with parquet floors, transparent glass walls, water features and an 80-foot wide sphere featuring a multimedia show by BRC Imagination Arts. In the atrium, City Design Group designed a system of theatrical trusses and lighting to support a variety of uses. CDG provided exhibit and specialty lighting, facility lighting consulting provided by Kardoff Ingenieure.<br />The venue aims to give its visitors a hands-on and highly entertaining look at the craftsmanship of the Volkswagen brand through six attractions, including a “virtual test drive” motion simulator, a real-time “earth observatory,” and a touch screen exhibit that enables visitors to design a dream car then print its brochure, including the user’s own photo likeness next to<br />the car.<br />Architect: Gunter Henn<br />Exhibit Design: BRC Imagination Arts<br />Lighting Design: Ted Ferreira<br />

EDUCATION<br />UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA – EAST VILLAGE DINING FACILITY ATHENS, GA<br />A new concept in dining at the University of Georgia in Athens, the East Village Dining Facility features casual seating areas, a retail store, café and a modern servery in a variety of warm and comfortable finishes. The barrel vault ceiling is prominently featured at the center of The building and provides a gathering place for both the common areas below and the dining areas above. The dining area is part of UGA’s new East Village community, which also includes a student center and 1200- bed housing complex. ENTERTAINMENT & LEISURE<br />STAR CITY CASINO SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA<br />Enjoying sweeping views of Sydney Harbor and the city skyline, the $750 million Star City Casino comprises four separate themed gaming areas, a variety of restaurants and bars, two performing arts facilities, a residential condominium complex and a towering rockwork feature complete with a 40 meter waterfall and flame effects. This Las Vegas-style resort casino is the sole licensee in the city of Sydney and draws visitors from throughout the Pacific Rim and beyond. RESTAURANT & BAR<br />Ginkgo Restaurant Chengdu, PRC<br />The owners of Gingko Restaurant in Chengdu, one of China’s fastest growing cities, retained CD+M to support in intricate, technical designs of Beijing-based design architect GRAFT. A surrealistic blend of traditional still life paintings and contemporary western textures and textiles, Gingko’s ingenious design plays on space and depth, heightening the senses.<br />Plush seating, exceptional food and intimate lighting combine at Gingko to create an ultimate Chinese dining atmosphere. MASTERPLAN<br />Taiyuan cbd master plan taiyuan, prc<br />A strong theme of ancient Chinese architecture, the “dougong”, has been incorporated into the custom design of the light poles used on Changfeng Street. Eight 150 watt metal halide lights have been integrated into the structure, enclosed in a highly efficient prefabricated housing that will direct the light to where it is needed without much light pollution or waste. Calculations were performed to ensure the number of light fixtures used on the poll would create an illumination level that would meet the national standard of 20 – 30 lux on the road surface (we have achieved an average of 25 lux). <br />Landscape Architect: AECOM<br />Lighting Design: Ted Ferreira, Patrick Yu<br />

Lauderdale, fl<br />Wannado City, the first role-playing theme park for children in the United States, empowers kids by letting them take on realistic, grown-up roles in a<br />city just for them.<br />The project features kid-sized police and fire stations, a theater, recording studio, beauty salon and many other activities all designed to ignite the imagination.<br />Located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, the spectacular indoor arena has been featured in USA Today, INC. and Funworld magazines. RETAIL<br />The EThel M Chocolate Superstore, m&m Academy Las vegas, nv<br />A mixture of film, retail, live action and whimsy, the M&M’s Academy at the Showcase Mall in Las Vegas offers guests an opportunity to experience the creation of the world-famous M&M’s candies.<br />This branded attraction features a 3D film by Will Vinton Studios, creator of the popular M&M’s candy television commercials, and a walk-through experience which delights kids young and old.<br />City Design Group provided lighting design and controls specifications for the Academy and the fourth-floor retail and café area under contract to Cunningham Group Architects and attraction designer Landmark Entertainment.<br />The project was awarded a 1999 Award for Excellence from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and was featured in the pages of Lighting Dimensions International.<br />Architect: Cunningham Group<br />Attraction Design: Landmark Entertainment<br />Lighting Design: Ted Ferreira<br />

The Grand Hyatt provides two essential components to the guest experience: a holistic environment that blends architecture and interiors with the surrounding landscape, and a relaxing sanctuary from everyday life. ENTERTAINMENT & LEISURE<br />Seaworld Orlando Orlando, FL<br />Mistify is a fantasy experience of film, water and special effects that unfold in the lake just offshore from the Waterfront expansion area at Seaworld Orlando. Guests watch along the shore as hundred-foot-tall walls of water serve as screens on which the film is projected, surrounded by dancing arrays of fountain jets, flames and fireworks shooting skyward. The Meydan provides a prime location to catch the exhilarating action of the racing season, and creates a coveted travel destination all-year round.<br />The Meydan offers 285 rooms and suites with balconies directly overlooking the racetrack, including one Royal Suite, and two Presidential Suites.   24. 24. MASTERPLAN<br />City of Lights Master Plan abu dhabi, UAE<br />The City of Lights on Al Reem Island is a breathtaking community set amidst a verdant, waterfront oasis. Draped across 101 acres of land, the area will include commercial and residential properties, including hotels, offices, retail space and residential accommodation. Towers will be built along a waterfront promenade and be interlinked by lush, landscaped plazas with signature clusters of date palms. World-class shopping and dining establishments will line the waterfront, which will offer an array of water-based activities and sports. ENTERTAINMENT & LEISURE<br />Universal Studios Island of adventure ORLANDO, FL<br />Universal Studios Islands of Adventure Theme Park opened in Orlando in 1999 and comprises six themed areas, each containing shops, restaurants and attractions. Inviting its guests to “Live the Adventure,” the park begins with the dramatic Port of Entry, followed by Seuss Landing, the Lost Continent, Jurassic Park, Toon Lagoon and Marvel Superhero Island.<br />Ted Ferreira was among a team of lighting designers on the project and contributed to the design of site lighting, pre-construction negotiation and specifications for the parkwide lighting control system, among the most technologically advanced in the world.<br />Owner: Universal Studios Creative<br />Architect: Morris Architects<br />Lighting Design: Ted Ferreira<br />

Architectural lighting design was provided by Quentin Thomas and Exhibit Lighting was provided by Fisher Marantz Stone & Associates. The Eric Paris line was founded by world-renowned stylist Eric, who rose to fame as the owner of Studio 54, the largest chain of salons in the South of France. As the premier stylist for China’s high fashion industry, Eric Paris Salon is recognized for innovative styles and a luxurious environment.   28. 28. PUBLIC<br />Dagu Bridge Tianjin, PRC<br />Completed in the spring of 2004, the Dagu Bridge is a new six-lane auto and pedestrian thoroughfare crossing the Haihe River in Tianjin, China. Conceptualized by Man-Chung Tang of T.Y. Lin International, the Dagu Bridge reflects a concept of the sun, moon and stars. Located in the center of Tianjin’s redevelopment area, the bridge is one of the first projects to emerge as part of the city’s major redevelopment plan.<br />Bridge Architect: T.Y. RETAIL<br />Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas, NV<br />The Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace is Las Vegas’ premier retail, dining and entertainment destination, featuring more than 160 boutiques and shops as well as 13 restaurants and specialty food shops. Through continual progress, The Forum Shops have maintained a position as the most successful shopping venue in the nation.<br />Completed in 2004, the most recent expansion to The Forum Shops added 175,000 square feet of luxury shopping and extended the property out to Las Vegas Boulevard, where a new grand pedestrian plaza creates a remarkable entrance. PERFORMING ARTS VENUE<br />Cobb Performing Arts Center Atlanta, GA<br />On September 15, 2007, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre became the first major arts facility to open in the Atlanta area in more than 40 years and serves as the new home of The Atlanta Opera.As the architectural lighting consultant for this $145 million project, CD+M developed a custom lighting concept that enhanced the dramatic and opulent design envisioned by Atlanta architects Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates, Inc. <br />The state-of-the-art facility includes a 2,750-seat theatre, a special event space, 1,000 parking spaces, full-service food and beverage capabilities and rehearsal facilities. EDUCATION<br />CWRU Weatherhead Graduate School of Management Cleveland, oh<br />The building’s façade follows Frank Gehry’s distinctive sculptural approach to building design, which utilizes curvaceous structures, intersecting forms and reflective metal. PUBLIC<br />Georgia State Capitol Atlanta, GA<br />In renovating the Georgia State Capital, the project leaders wanted to achieve color consistency and to make the variety of architectural details visible at night. RETAIL<br />H Stockton Retail Store Atlanta, GA<br />H Stockton, the venerable Atlanta retailer known for its exceptional tailored suits, wanted to update its established, well-respected look with a fresh design for its midtown flagship store at 1180 Peachtree Street, among Atlanta’s newest high-rise buildings. HOSPITALITY<br />Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago, IL<br />CD+M collaborated with leading design firm The Johnson Studio to create two exciting new dining facilities in the $60 million renovation of the Hyatt O’Hare in Chicago. HOSPITALITY<br />Inn of the Mountain Gods MESCALERO, NM<br />Marc Rosenberg, with architect and interior designer Worth Group, designed the Inn of the Mountain Gods resort and casino, which opened in March 2005. Situated high in the picturesque mountains of Mescalero, New Mexico, just outside of Ruidoso, the upscale property features 250 guest rooms, 26 suites, 38,000 square-feet of gaming space, 40,000 square feet of convention space and several restaurants. CD+M developed a lighting plan for the resort’s interior and exterior spaces - including a full-service spa, casino, nine restaurants and five bars - using a wide variety of modern technology to create color- changing coves and glowing, rear-illuminated panels.<br />This blend of unique amenities and pop ambience ensures M Resort will provide guests with an unforgettable experience, both at present and in the future. HOSPITALITY<br />McAllen Convention Center Mcallen, TX<br />The new 175,000 square-foot McAllen Convention Center is the centerpiece of a large mixed-use retail, exhibition and arts master plan, designed by Atlanta-based Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback and Associates (tvsdesign), in partnership with Corpus Christi-based Gignac & Associates. CD+M Lighting Design Group designed lighting for all of the interior public spaces and exterior site, including the exhibition hall, main and prefunction lobbies, ballroom, meeting rooms and boardrooms. HOSPITALITY<br />HUDSONALPHA INSTITUTE FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY (HAIB) Huntsville, al<br />Under the leadership of Atlanta-based Cooper Carry Architects, CD+M assisted in the design of a new quarters for the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology (HAIB) in Huntsville, Alabama. Warm wood finishes throughout the stunning five-story atrium are enhanced with ambient light in the evening, transforming this public space into an inviting common area for the staff to discuss ideas, collaborate and think creatively.
