2. Exposition
• Fallen Angels takes place in Vietnam during
the Vietnam War. The main character’s name
is Perry Richard. His best friend is name
Peewee Gates. Perry has gone to war instead
of city college because of his family. He has a
little brother name Kenny who needs money
to go to school. Perry is a tall, strong man. He
is black and his house is in the Bronx, New
York.
3. Rising Action
• Perry, Peewee, and their company(squad) go
out on many patrols together. During one
firefight with a the Vietcong, Perry is hit and
has to take a long leave. During his leave, the
company has a period of almost no action, but
one of the troopers leave the squad to go
home.
4. Climax
• When Perry gets back, the company throws a
celebration for his return. However, on the
company’s first patrol since Perry’s absence
something goes terribly wrong.
5. Falling Action
• During a firefight, the 2 friends are separated
from the squad. There are at least a 1000
Vietcong going after the 2 soldiers after the
rest of the squad left. At the landing zone,
there is a trooper tied to a tree and the
Vietcong have set a trap. But the 2 friends
outwit the enemy. After a tiresome,
adrenaline-pumping narrow escape from the
Vietcong, they get back to base.
6. Resolution
• At the end of the book, the squad finishes their
service term and they go their own separate
ways. However, during the war, one of the
soldiers was engaged to his girlfriend. The book
ends with a big party at the wedding.
• Perry has changed very much during his term of
service. He has seen people shot, with horrible
diseases, and the slums of Vietnam. He is no
longer the Perry Richard new guy that entered
the war a few months ago.
7. Conflict
• The conflict was person vs. society
• In the book, the squad’s other job is to also
help out villages that have decided to be on
the American’s side or change a village’s
opinions. However, some are filled with
enemy influence so it is hard to change them.
8. Theme
• The author’s message in this book was to keep
on trying to accomplish your goal. And that
goal maybe to stay alive or to help others. For
example, when Perry and Peewee were
separated from the squad they kept on
fighting for their lives, regardless of the odds.
