The Masthead
I like the Masthead that Classic Rock have decided to use for
this special edition edition of their magazine. The masthead is
representative of the golden age of Country Music and looks
very nostalgic which will appeal to the target audience. I would
consider using this style of masthead in my own magazine as it
looks very original which could work for my magazine.

Fonts and cover stories
This special edition uses a Sans Serif style of font to create a
nostalgic effect for the reader, thus appealing to the target
audience. The front cover has no cover stories however it does
include a large headline which is closely related to the image.

Photography
The photograph that has been used on the front page of this
special edition is of a high quality. The model is shown from hips
upward and the costume is resembling the golden days of Dolly
Parton’s career. The model is not looking into the camera which
creates the effect of stardom and makes the model look more
desirable.

Banners, pugs and sell lines
A white banner has been used in this special edition, this
emphasis the masthead of the magazine. Intrestingly the
magazine includes a sell line above the masthead. This is
effective as a sell line as it entices the target auidence and
gives them a taste of the contents of the magazine. However
this special edition does not use any pugs.

Dyer’s star theory
Richard Dyer said “that a star is created, not born”. I believe
that this special of edition of Classic Rock magazine
demonstrates this well. This is because the image of Dolly
Parton on the front cover has been edited a lot and a lot of
makeup has been used on the model. This suggest that we are
not getting the real image of Dolly Parton and rather an image
that has been created by the magazine.
