Wave is a real-time communication platform which incorporates some of the aspects of email, IM, wikis and project management.
Before new slide – “So what is Google Wave, what does it do well?”
Realtime - If two or more people are online and viewing the same wave they can see each other typing in real-time. Extensibility - You can add gadgets (little programs) or robots (automated discussion participants) to your waves. Hosted – There is only one copy of a wave. Each participant can edit any part of it without having to resend the entire message as in email. Playback – The history of all waves are kept so latecomers to a wave can replay the edits to a wave in order and see how the discussion progressed. Easier Filesharing - Just drag and drop your files into a wave to share them – no attaching!
Access Permissions can restrict participants to Read Only or Full Access permissions (Reply Only coming soon). Only wave creator can change someone’s permissions. Extensions Menu is an easy place to find extensions. Not all of them are there yet, nor are Robots (see previous slide for link) but the most popular extensions are there. Makes it much easier to add them to your waves. Email Notifications – sends you and email when a wave you are a part of is changed. Turn on by clicking the down arrow next to Inbox.
Slow – If you’re using Firefox try using Google Chrome for Wave. Also means you won’t have to install Google Gears to get drag and drop files to work.
