As a reminder, Shaping Our Future will provide a planning framework to these 12 counties. These counties are connected by the natural environment, roadways, and economic ties.
In July we finished the “Listen” step of the planning process. The six goals of Shaping Our Future were adopted then. Now we’re in the “Discuss and Test” steps.
Remind them of the goals
The next step is choosing objectives and indicators. An objective of a goal: the way to know whether we’re advancing toward the goal. Each goal can have more than one objective, and each objective may contribute to more than one goal. [Specific, reasonable, measurable targets should be calibrated through research, modeling, and iterative performance evaluation Different from the policies, strategies, tools and programs recommended for implementation]
Several technical working groups that are composed of people from the disciplines above are working to come up with objectives. Some of the objectives they come up with will be able to be used as objectives for more than one discipline or goal. The objectives will be consolidated to make a smaller set of objectives that meet all goals of Shaping Our Future. Measurable indicators that will track the region’s progress toward achieving the goals will also be chosen.
This is where we’ll give the external groups an idea of what the technical groups are coming up with for objectives. These are the disciplines compared to the goals.
Here are some ideas how we take objectives and apply them to various disciplines and goals.
Again, we are in the “Discuss” and “Test” steps of Shaping Our Future. The next step is to develop priorities, strategies and tools that can be used by groups such as yourselves to work toward achieving the goals of Shaping Our Future.
