Uganda is a country slightly smaller than Oregon with a population of over 30 million people. The median age is 14.9 years and the population is growing at a rate of 3.5% annually. Infant mortality is high at 67 deaths per 1,000 live births while life expectancy is low at 51.75 years on average. Fertility is also high with women having 6.84 children each on average. The largest ethnic groups are the Baganda at 16.9% and Banyakole at 9.5% while Roman Catholicism and Protestantism are the most common religions. English is the official language along with many Niger-Congo languages, though literacy rates reach only 66.8%.
