Internet of Things Demands Software Defined Storage
1. Internet of Things Demands Software DefinedStorage
In our previous post we had discussed about How Internet of Things is
Reshaping the World which gave us a better insight into the advantages
of going for Internet of Things and its growing demands in near future.
This time we have come up with other aspect of the Internet of Things
(IoT) as how it can help in storing large data.
In recent times Internet of Things (IoT) has off course become an
integral part of lives of many people as they have provided driverless
cars, wearable fitness technology and much more.
Internet of Things is a major breakthrough in the technology and is
widely adopted by people and businesses across the world. However
the Internet of Things and other trends like mobility, social media and
other big data actually are driving strong demand for storage of data.
Such an exponential growth rate of data is making its storage tough.
The storage appliances are one of the building blocks of any day-to-day
data center. These come up with software package that is customized
as per the hardware and vice versa. Its benefits are that it is easy to use
and configure them as per our convenience.
2. The appliances which are traditional are effective but also expensive.
These come with redundant components which do have additional
layers available for better complexity. But when companies go for
Internet of Things to scale out their data centers, the costs for the
traditional architecture touches the sky limit.
Its biggest bottleneck is that all the requests come via a single point of
entry and are then re-directed. Imagine millions of users getting
connected to just a single entry point that too at the same time. It
hence makes things tough and restricts service providers to meet the
capacity needed for Internet of Things.
From the recent survey the forecasts suggest that the digital universe
will certainly double till 2020. Don’t assume that this whole data
3. growth is only driven by people, but also by the devices which are in
connection to the Internet for transmitting data 24/7.
Here came into picture the software-defined storage. Just to overcome
these organizations are moving towards alternative storage
approaches. One of them is Software-defined storage which is one of
the best alternative. This term means instead of the dependency on the
storage appliances now things are moving towards software layer
hence adopting a software-defined approach. This hence is a major
breakthrough for meeting the demands for Internet of Things.
To sum up we can say yes this software defined storage method is
more suited as it can easily serve the variant requirements of the data
centers across different industries. For example a telecom service
provider may have different needs for data storage whereas a major
bank with many branches across world with a cloud service host
provider may also have different set of needs. So the data storage by
software is customized as per the need of the businesses. For the
Internet of services to successfully survive the need for software
defined things always exists.
